Is Belichick about to retire?

SicilianGMEN : 2/5/2018 2:20 pm
Lots of strange things this season with him and the rumored issues Kraft and him have....do you all think he quits/retires in the coming days/weeks?
Maybe the way he does it is how Parcells did to us

If he wants to put up one last middle finger up, April or May would be a killer.
I can't imagine Belichick wants that shit show to be his ...

... last game. He was supposed to know a little something about defense.
No, he's about to hire
Mr. Bungle : 2/5/2018 2:23 pm : link
Greg Schiano as defensive coordinator.
My best source says that's not what they're hearing

but another friend said the buzz is out there in some circles. I'm going with the former for now. If NYG had waited for him, then who knows, even despite DG's presence etc.

Wouldn't he want to relocated to NY

to be closer to Brady's kids' school?
I personally believe

There was a chance he would have come for the Giants job. I really do. I still find his answer when asked about it very odd for someone like Belichick. He was asked about his supposed interest in the job right before the divisional round and his answer was, "Right now my interest is in the Titans."

I found that an odd answer from someone like BB. I expected him to either ignore the question or mock the guy asking it right before a playoff round. Not only did he not do that, he never denied interest in the job either with an answer like that.
He'll retire when Brady retires.

him possible getting a job here like Coughlin (executive vice president) of the Jags got. I don't know why but I've felt like since the rumors were flying that might be something of interest to him.

I think he uses this answer about 60% of the time to questions, so I didn't find it of character.

That said, if BB was leaving and wanted to be the Giants coach, I would think long about asking Pat Shurmur if he would be OC/Assistant HC and be the next coach in line. As insane a situation as that would be, wouldn't you have to try to get the best coach of all time here...?

Unless of course you think Shurmur can be that... I have high hopes, but BB, you have to move the earth and stars to get I would think.
I think there's little chance...
BillKo : 2/5/2018 2:41 pm : link
for BB to come back here, mainly because we hired a GM. A strong willed GM at that.

BB would want full control.......so he sticks there and probably retires from the Pats.

And I agree, he's not retiring after that performance.

You mean like the mess the Jets came up with to get Parcells and Belichick to leave the Patriots, where Belichick was twice the head coach for the Jets but never actually coaching in a game as they worked out the Parcells contract?

As much as I want Belichick to come back to the Giants, that ship has sailed now. The organization has given the reigns to Gettleman and Shurmur.

If I had to guess, I wouldn't be shocked to see Belichick take some front office position in New England and give the team to McDaniels.

I was thinking the same thing. If he came here to serve in a similar role as Coughlin does in Jax would the Giants need to compensate NE? I don't think Gettleman would go with that but it would make a lot of sense.
Not sure you really want Belichick as a front office guy

Belichick the coach is a legend. Belichick the GM....not so much.
We will NEVER know what might have gone down
GmeninPSL : 2/5/2018 3:17 pm : link
but there is a big part of me that thinks championship weekend changed the fate of many coaches. I was PRAYING for a Jags win and a Vikings win because only then would the Giants have had their short two week window of opportunity if they truly wanted Belichick and he truly wanted the Giants. But the opposite happened and the Giants organization moved forward. But I'll always wonder what those two weeks would have been like as McDaniels was headed to the Colts and Patricia to the Lions; question would have been, off a Jags home loss and the Giants vacancy looking at BB in the face what would he and the Giants have done? We will NEVER know....
First, the Garapollo...

give away. And last night this inexplicable decision - so far, at least - to not play Butler. That move caught the entire defense off guard. Per many experts, as well, BB and Patricia made few adjustments - did finally move Gilmore to shadow Jeffries - to their defensive scheme for the entire game.

Something very strange is going on up there...

I've read some of the things people in NE
moespree : 2/5/2018 3:32 pm : link
Are implying today, and I just cannot imagine that any coach would sabotage his own team in the championship game just to stick it to the owner on the way out the door. That being said, if there was 1 coach capable of it, it would be Belichick. But even so, I can't even fathom someone doing that.

I always thought Belichick didn't want to come back to a city like New York with all of the media and what not.?.
The players lost the game

They did not make plays when needed.

Plus the team talent wise wasn't that good in reality and it showed up against a team that was. And yet it was close due to the coaching and game plan.

We'll probably find out the reason Butler sat was due to a team violation.

Belichick will draft a QB this draft. He'll sit until Brady is done which I see as being anohter season or two. He looked old.

As Matt in SGS has pointed out over the years, there's been back channel talk about him coaching NYG, it's just never worked out.
