Navarro Bowman

Andy in Boston : 2/7/2018 10:10 am
I'm thinking he could be a top free agent priority for the Giants in addition the the OL.

Had a decent year last year....is fully recovered from his horrific injury.

He can play inside with Woodson if the Giants play alot of 3-4....and he can certainly be an MLB or SLB in a 4-3 scheme. He should be somewhat affordable.....and I think he'd be a great locker room guy. Thoughts?

Karlos Dansby is another veteran ILB who Bettcher knows well.
Id hope not...lets stay with younger prospects.

and Bowman is willing to sign for 1-2 million on a 1 year deal then yes he should be brought in as a two down ILB to compete for the starting spot next to Goodson. Bowman is a liability in coverage now and he isn't close to the impact player he was earlier in his career.

FA signings like Bowmen or Dansby would be an excellent move, especially when implementing a new system.

Everyone wants to only have young players, until the young guys are hurt or just plain suck.

You need a few vets in every position group.

Dansby is still around? Jeez... every time his contract is up he gets mentioned as a Giants target!

What percentage of starting NFL linebackers ARE good in coverage? And the few that excel in this area are sometimes not very good in stopping the run. For arguments sake, lets say there are 100 starting LB's in the NFL. Give me 10 that excel at both.

Yep. A veteran presence, especially if you're switching to a new scheme, shouldn't be underestimated.

I've been saying the Giants should go after Kevin Minter, another ILB who has played for Bettcher and actually had his 2 best years in that scheme. Still relatively young. He will be affordable, especially coming off a down year in Cincy. I don't think he fit the Bengals system as well as he did in Bettcher's system.

But, in 2016 under Bettcher, Minter was graded as a top 25 lb.

Goodson

I'd guess Goodson starts at SILB with Vernon at SOLB. They need guys to man the weakside spots. Guys like Nigel Bradham and Tahir Whitehead are possibilities. I'd look at bringing Keenan Robinson back cheaply too. It's also feasible Collins starts as an outside linebacker.

I'd say he's on the younger side of "old" at 29, especially with a team-friendly contract.

that the Rams might be forced to cut Mark Barron for cap purposes. They also mentioned Robert Quinn but that doesn't make any sense. Barron would be a solid addition at the right price.

Devon Kennard can play ILB or OLB in Bettcher's scheme. He should be brought back to compete at both spots. Worst case scenario is that he is a situational pass rusher that provides solid depth.

This is why I don't get the 3-4 talk or the enthusiasm for it. Vernon at SOLB!? Does this really sound like a good idea for a guy who's had his hand in the dirt for his whole career. Don't get it.

Kennard's not that great. They need to move on.
Isn’t Dansby ancient? Bring him in as assistant coach!

Yes! We should only be signing the up and coming 25 year old studs hitting free agency, and only on team friendly deals!

/end sarcasm

Demario Davis and Avery Williamson

are two other FA ILBs they should look at.
