Yeah the most drastic change is that Gettleman's draft board has added the linebacker position.

during the coaching mess I heard we were adding someone to the front office. I posted about it in a few threads. Koncz, Elliot Wolf, and Andrew Berry (and another guy whose name isn't coming to me right now) were the names. TBH, I was betting on Berry and I had no idea who Koncz was. I also heard we wanted to add analytics that's why I thought Berry.
Philly and New England are excellent examples -- The Kraft Group, a 28 year old with a line into Peterson's ear telling him the data says going for it on 4th and 1 is the call, etc.
One reason I was most excited about a new GM was the possibility of moving toward the front of the pack in analytics by bringing in a guy with fresh ideas.
I won't go as far as to say I'm disappointed we're bringing in 'old friends' from pro personnel to help with the draft because I don't know the guy. But I hope Gettleman sees the opportunity for innovation and analytics as a catalyst for turning this thing around.

Frank, you must have missed the earlier reports on this... here are more details... Reports – Dave Gettleman Changes Draft Process; Thomas McGaughey to Coach Special Teams - ( New Window )
Yep. Totally missed that! Think I traveling that day, meant to go back and read the Gettleman piece but later forgot. Thanks for pointing it out.
The Giants have used analytics in their player evaluations for a while Â
It wouldn't be something they have to go out and add.
Actually the Giants are among the teams crawling into it. Reese was said to be a big proponent against analytics when it came to evaluating players. He was adamant about trusting their eyes. We could probably even find quotes of his to the media saying that. Connor Lewis was brought on but only lasted a few years here, I think he's with Green Bay now. The closest we get to using analytics now is PFF lol.
Teams off the top of my head who are really into football analytics are the Ravens, Patriots, Eagles, Packers, Jaguars, Browns, Cowboys, Saints.

When I said we use PFF, Jon Berger is the culprit.
How about from the horses mouth.

He's not a big fan of analytics
Perhaps it is a bit of a surprise, but Reese is not a fan of the increasing emphasis on analytics. Baseball has gone analytics-crazy, and it is creeping into football as well. Reese, though, still likes his scouts to rely on what they see.
"Here with us we evaluate guys with our eyes. Analytics play a role, but the number one thing we use here is our eyes. Our eyes tell the story," Reese said.
"At the end of the day what you see is what you have to believe."
And I'm sure I'll get shelled for this, but I have to say, I'm a huge fan of the front office moves the Browns have made this offseason.
Dorsey as GM, Eliot Wolf as assistant GM, and they hired Scott MccLoughan as a consultant. Very curious to see what they do with their picks because, at least for me, that group inspires a good deal of confidence. In particular, really would have loved for MccLoughan to have been a voice in our war room somehow.

I remember reading John Mara say that EA was only helping in the GM search.

Otherwise, why not give him Ross’s job right now?
