#Clippers and #Cavs spent last night engaged in serious trade talks revolving DeAndre Jordan, per league source. Should a deal get done however, Clips are insisting it include the #Nets pick (which Dan Gilbert doesn't want to surrender). I'm told only the Cavs pick is on table.

Knicks made Lee available for a late 1st which they hope to flip for elfrid payton

The Knicks should not trade for him, because Hornacek would use him and Beasley and they would win a few games 140-135.

The Knicks need to win no more than 2-4 games for the rest of the season to get into the top 5 of this draft. It is the only silver lining.

Again - the NYK would just cut IT in my scenario.
i like the late first for Lee....
Italianju : 2/8/2018 10:24 am : link
dont like flipping it for Payton but i dont absolutely hate it. Dont want to pay Payton though, but is someone signing payton as a RFA? Maybe you get him back for another season at the QO and you can see if he has improved.
I understand not wanting to take on contracts that..

go past next season but id love to get Clarkson and Nance.

Lakers are using Larry Nance as a sweetener in deals involving Jordan Clarkson, league sources say. It's unclear which teams have interest, if any. Clarkson is signed through 2019-20 and teams are reluctant to take on pricey long-term contracts.

Payton has gotten better every single year and his 3 or shooting has improved as well..

If they take noah for Bismarck is do it
If we get a first for Lee
bceagle05 : 2/8/2018 10:28 am : link
we should take it and run, not flip it for an average player who we'll have to overpay as a RFA this summer.
Payton's probably better than average
bceagle05 : 2/8/2018 10:29 am : link
but still, I'd rather keep the pick.
If payton..
Italianju : 2/8/2018 10:30 am : link
was signed for a couple more years id be fine with it. But i dont want to see us pay him like 4/50 this offseason. Giving up a first for the right to overpay payton in the hopes that he continues to improve is not something i want to do.

I think it all depends who the first comes from. Its from a team who will end up picking 25 or lower it could be worth it.

Payton wont command a ridiculous contract, hes 23 and potentially better than someone youd draft at 28 this year.

if we're smart (ha!) I think there will be an opportunity to get guys on good deals this summer - maybe something less than 4/50. Most teams will only have the MLE to throw around. Maybe you can get Payton to stay for 4/36? Because it's the Knicks you know the last year will be a player option. It's also possible a lot of these guys just take the qualifying offer and try their luck next year.
Maybe we can squeeze Hezonja into the trade.

Payton
DanMetroMan : 2/8/2018 10:35 am : link
is quietly having a breakout year... but I'm sorry if they are so hot for him it's not a good sign for the view of Frank. He's now a 2? I mean maybe that's his role but he was sold as a big 1. As a 2 the absolute dream is Tony Allen and that's the extreme high end outcome "best wing defender in the NBA over a near decade"/.

Unless the Lakers take Kanter I dont see any contracts the Knicks have that would make the trade doable that dont go past the Lakers 2019 timeline

Would need to be a three team deal where Clarkson, Nance go to NY, Lee to Cleveland, Shumpert to LA
Payton
Pete44 : 2/8/2018 10:39 am : link
I don't see the Knicks getting a late first for Lee and if they got it, why flip it for Payton.

This is the problem, the Knicks are too reactionary, never seem to have a plan.

Payton is ok, but not sure he is worth a first rounder.

Frank switching positions isnt a bad thing, and Frank already shoots more theees per game than Allen ever has and at a better clip. Tony Allen isnt a fair ceiling.
Lakers...

would prolly need to take Baker unless we want to trade all of our expirings to make it work. KOQ, McDermott, Jack, and Beasley would be enough going out salary.

I read something somewhere that said some in the org think Frank may end up being more of a combo guard, maybe more like an Avery Bradley type?

I was thinking the same thing about Frank, seems awfully quick to give up on him as a 1. Of course, Mills and Perry did not really select him, which is why, firing Phil after the draft was such another poor move.

Frank is a bad offensive...
Italianju : 2/8/2018 10:43 am : link
player right now but he is already probably a better offensive player then Allen was. He could easily be a Danny Green type player but with better penetration and passing.

I dont have a problem with him moving to the 2 except that we just signed Hardaway for huge money. I dont love the idea of THJR being an undersized 3.
Payton
Pep22 : 2/8/2018 10:43 am : link
is he a RFA (not a UFA)?

would a haircut be part of the deal (not sure I can tolerate watching that every night)?
Yeah I wonder if Frank is long for this team
bceagle05 : 2/8/2018 10:45 am : link
if Payton were brought in. Payton and Burke are "Perry guys" and Hardaway is a "Mills guy." Frank's a "Phil guy."

Well that's the point. It again suggests "welp we will have to figure it out later". Payton/Frank/THjr does not sound like a very successful trio 1-3.
ha id prefer Randle to...
Italianju : 2/8/2018 10:48 am : link
but i dont think you are getting Randle and Clarkson for a bag of basketball. Id be surprised if the Lakers actually pulled the trigger on Clarkson and Nance for a salary dump. Lakers are not exactly being run great right now though so who knows. If given consistent minutes i think Clarkson could be a very good NBA player. The Lakers refuse to give anyone consistent time.

Some think Frank might grow to 67 - 68. If thats the case hed be the 3.

But they have a 2 already, a youngish one. So now he's a backup 1-2? Already?
Dan..
Italianju : 2/8/2018 10:51 am : link
yeah i agree. Which is why id rather them not get Payton. Was more just saying i think frank coudl be a very good 2. Which of course doesnt fit our need either. That said i think you could go a season with Payton, Frank, and THJR getting enough minutes. And maybe then you make a move to balance out the roster. Maybe all three play well and you can move Payton or Frank for a real asset that helps balance out the roster. But its the Knicks so they will prolly sign a vet PG in the offseason to back up Payton and give Frank 10 minutes a game next season as well.,

it's not my plan, it's just what I read. But, yeah, I guess? He is gonna develop into whatever he is gonna be. If it's a combo guard, then that's what he is. It's not the worst thing in the world because it gives a smart coach lots of lineup flexibility.
I don't see why he can't be a back-up 1/2
Pep22 : 2/8/2018 10:57 am : link
for now. If he develops and earns more time, great. For now, he just doesn't have the skill set to do more. More playing time impacts this less than time spent at the gym honing some NBA caliber skills.
Jameer Nelson traded for Willie Reed....

Lee
TyreeHelmet : 2/8/2018 11:26 am : link
If the Knicks got lucky and traded Lee for a first then they better hold on to it. 1st round picks are so valuable in todays salary cap structure. I know hes improved but trading for Payton would be a very dumb move. But its the Knicks....

Lee for a late 1st

Trade that 1st for Payton (3/$36mm) as a bridge to Ntilikina until he is ready & most importantly, the opportunity to dump Noah for a viable bak-up BIG in Biyumbo

Essentially, its Lee for Payton, same $$. Noah for Biyumbo, same $$$.

Celtics are the big losers in that trade.
Clarkson and Nance

will def help the Cavs be more athletic this season.

I think Isiah was addition by subtraction.

It seems like a decent trade for both teams as trades should be, not like the trades the Knicks make that only help the other team.
