What is your plan or hopes for rounds 2,3,4,5, and 6

wgenesis123 : 2/10/2018 9:01 am
after the Giants pick your guy at 2. I don't like any of the QB's at 2 and I also feel like taking one limits the Giants chances of addressing other needs in the later rounds. I am not sold on Barkley but I think you can still improve the O-line with free agency and the draft if you take Barkley, who also makes Eli a better QB for this coming season. That leads to the real question. If you take Barkley at 2 can you get a QB to pair with Webb and develop in round two or three and still make enough improvement in other areas of need. You can say almost the same thing if you want a QB at 2, can you get a good running back in the draft and still address enough other areas of need. You can throw in the maybe scenario of trading down if you like but get me an effective running game and QB for the future. Of course if you don't care about this coming season you can do whatever the hell you like. That is the approach some teams take. So what is your plan for the Giants future, I know some guys on BBI have it all mapped out so make it long if you like.
The chances of finding a Derek Carr type

in rounds 2 on are extremely slim. I think people who want Barkley on draft day are going to be very disappointed. Some people just don't understand that Darnold and Rosen are only 20 years old and still developing. Neither is at their peak and Darnold can develop significantly more.
My hope is

Your pick at 2 ???? It can impact the remaining picks.
Hopes?

I just want at least 4 players, any position, who will deserve a second contract.

Isn't that what we kept hearing about Flowers was that he was really young too. Haha, I had to say it.
If there was an elite QB prospect there at pick 2, I would not care
wgenesis123 : 2/10/2018 9:16 am : link
about anything else. I just don't see that prospect in this years draft, but maybe other people do.
Definitely QB in round 1 (hopefully Darnold)
GiantGolfer : 2/10/2018 9:17 am : link
Then if we can 2 or 3 solid NFL starters between rounds 2-5, I’d be happy. Positions don’t matter because you can’t evaluate talent until years 2/3 anyway. Later rounds are a crap shoot.

Bpa. We need a lot.
yatqb : 2/10/2018 9:25 am : link
Hopefully a few OL and lbs in the mix, along with a CB.

I had the same mentality as you. I do think Rosen can be that guy but I cannot see myself pulling the trigger on him unless there is a way to predict how he can handle a hit to the head. I know from playing football for 13 years of my life and coaching for almost another 10. It is like a dislocated shoulder. Once you get one you are way more susceptible to more.

With all of that said, the main reason I wanted Shurmur is because of his success with QBs. I am more confident that he can work with a guy like Darnold than if we got a HC like Patricia. Even if Shurmur doesn't bring us the team success that we hope he does, the bare minimum is to set up our future by developing a QB. Whether that is a draft pick 2nd overall, a QB later in the draft, or Webb, I think that needs to be a main goal of this coaching staff and management.
I'd be happy with ....

Darnold, Rosen, or Barkley as the team's pick at two. They are all highly rated, and fit a team's need.

the draft was about the teams in front of the Giants and hoping they take a QB causing talented players to drop to the Giants. This year is so different!

Should be discussing what it will take to trade up.

It is doubtful that Cleveland thinks Kizer is a franchise QB any more than the Giants think Webb is.

So do you wait for your second choice to fall to you or do you try to ensure that you get your first choice?
If Giants do not take a QB at #2 why the hell
Jimmy Googs : 2/10/2018 10:49 am : link
would they ever take one in Rd 2 or Rd 3?

Hoping for just quality football players in Rounds 2-6

no projects, no combine superstars...just plain old aggressive football players.

Positionally, focus in on LB, OL, RB and FS
My hopes?

Good players for a change.

Give me
RB Saquon Barkley 1st
EDGE Arden Key 2nd
CB Mike Hughes 3rd
WR DJ Chark 4th
DL Trenton Thompson 4th
OL Desmond Harrison 5th
RB Martez Carter 6th

Re-sign Cockrell, Pugh and Fluker. Bring in Norwell and Zach Brown. Replace Wing and Rosas. Cut Harris, Marshall, Jerry and maybe DRC. Extend one of Beckham or Collins, whichever one has the most reasonable price... that way you can tag one next off-season if you have too... you don't want to go into the season with two studs playing on expiring contracts... you don't want to even risk losing one or the other.

Manning, Webb
Barkley, Gallman, Carter
Ellison
Engram
Beckham Jr
Shepard
Flowers, Harrison
Norwell
Jones
Fluker
Pugh, Wheeler, Bisnowaty

Key
Vernon, Moss
Harrison
Tomlinson, Thompson
Pierre-Paul
Goodson, Munson
Brown
Jenkins, Apple
Cockrell, Hughes
Collins
Thompson, Adams

or something like that
Thank you Ivan, someone that get it here.

QB is unlike any position on the field. If they determine one of these guys IS the guy to succeed Eli, then they have to do whatever it takes to get the guy. Trade, back room deal (like with SD in 2004). Period. you don't take your second choice because he's the best QB available. Doesn't work that way. Now if they are not high on any of these guys (which I HIGHLY doubt after the combine, pro days, etc) then you go in another direction.

OG, LB, DT, LB, DB with return skills/ Speed WR with return skills
My current thinking....
Milton : 2/10/2018 2:21 pm : link
1. QB (Rosen)
2 OL (Price, Wynn, Hernandez, Okorafor, Rankin, O'Neill, Crosby)
3 LB (Leonard, Nwosu, Vander Esch, Jewell)
4. RB (Kelly)
4c. CB
5. OL
6. WR
6t. DB
7. PK
Usually the best thing is to go bpa, but if things are close to equal
Ira : 2/10/2018 2:21 pm : link
our positions of greatest need are ol, lb and db. That, of course, may change after free agency.
(Pool system)
idiotsavant : 2/10/2018 2:23 pm : link
BPA from within a pile of 'position cards' or a 'pool'.

(G, G, OT, NT, DT, RB, RB, DE/OLB, SS/ILB, SS/ILB, blocking TE)

Rinse repeat.
Once you pick throw that card on the floor
idiotsavant : 2/10/2018 2:25 pm : link
Pure BPA within that pool only though.

Some positions have two cards.

Depends on if your first choice is Rosen or Darnold. If it's Rosen, you just wait because the Browns are going to take Darnold. And if it's Darnold, you just wait because there's no way that the Browns trade down if Darnold is their man. They don't need more draft picks, they need a QB!

The only reason to trade up is if Cleveland doesn't want a QB with their first pick and is open to trade offers.

I agree with the first four. But I prioritize another LB and DL ahead of another OL or CB. I think a FS in the latter rounds would be a good pick up.
In the 5th and 6th round I want BPA regardless of position.
wgenesis123 : 2/10/2018 7:56 pm : link
Once teams really start drafting for need ahead of talent you see players with good grades dropping to the 5th and 6th round. To my way of thinking these are the players who can contribute more to a team. If your going to address need in the 5th and 6th round it better be a running back or special teams player or your still going to have a need.
It's madness to think that anyone
idiotsavant : 2/10/2018 8:48 pm : link
Even the professionals know who will have 'best' career or impact on a team in those late rounds.

You must think about your particular coaching style, synergy, needs, types...the market. In which positions quality is dropping right now....
If one of the quys is determined to be the next franchise guy
joeinpa : 2/11/2018 9:57 am : link
I don t see how anyone can argue about taking him at # 2 or even trading up to get him if necessary

Then use rounds 2 through 6 with the BPA available approach

The idea of using the number 2 pick on a weapon for Eli seems very short sighted to me
