Just for fun. Showed a lot of Tony Romo, scratch golfer. He's hit some really good shots and some pedestrian shots. By far the best amatuer swing.
(not that too many on BBI give a crap)
and it is addicting in that the more you play, the more you want to play. Some days you want to give it up, so frustrating...weird.. and just one good shot or hole and the anger/desperation goes away.
My love for the game probably started while watching on TV the old Bing Crosby Pro-Am at Pebble with my father. The idea of being at the most beautiful place where land meets sea in February while playing a game captivated me.
Fort five or so years later, I played 100 rounds last year. I spend more than I can afford on equipment and courses. I've played some of the great courses here and in Ireland.
But you couldn't get me to play there at $1800 per round (green fees plus mandatory stay at the hotel). And as I understand it, even after booking a room, there's no guarantee of booking a round at Pebble every day you stay. That's just someone telling you you're stupid and they can take your money from you. I'd love to play there and I admit I'd be tempted to pay the green fees but the cost is just insulting.
Golf does become addicting.....the beauty of nature, the quiet, the serenity (especially after working all week at a nutty job). However, the accumulation of bad knees, aching back and feet, plus the inability to improve your average score does take its toll. I'm thinking about stopping...but it took 27 years (started at age 40). Then again, once the weather turns warm, I'll probably reconsider, though, as real hacker, I would never even think of playing a high end course, let alone Pebble Beach.
but i watched the dude bogey 16 and 17 from a hundred out...im a scratch golfer as well, and i would have no problem playing him for my type of cash...he seems too entitled, as if pounding putts 8 feet by is a good approach to golf...he is going to get smashed in his tour debut (which is ridiculous btw)...and rightfully so...he is a country club star, whoopdy doo.
I've played Pebble as a non guest by making a tee time 3 days in advance. I'll play there any chance I get. But I understand it's too expensive for a lot of people.
10 handicap but I stopped playing for 2 months out of our short Buffalo golf season last year because of the sh@#nks. I could not figure out what the hell I was doing. Club pro tried but didn't get rid of them. Finally took a lesson at a completely different place and figured it out.
It's a soul crushing experience, I hope no golfer has to go through what I did. Literally hit the ball worse than a 30 handicapper, couldn't finish half the holes.
Those guys are so good it makes it look easy.
