NFT: I've really become an Eagles fan lately...

DC Gmen Fan : 2/11/2018 11:33 am
always liked the music but just recently started digging into the history of the band. I never realized Jackson Browne had such an influence in their music, specifically co-writing Take it Easy with Glenn.

For those of you who were fans during their peak, was Browne ever considered part of the band, or was he more of an associated act?
I like you

You're silly.
He was an associated act....

there's a really good documentary on the Eagles on Netflix.

Jackson Browne was emerging as a solo artist and met Don and Glenn through Linda Ronstadt when they were in her backup band.

It was a whole scene going on in LA.
lots of great music documentaries on Netflix

I'm friends with two people who rubbed elbows with Henley and the music scene back in the 90s. The stories are true. Henley is a gigantic asshole.

Very heavy into ideology and egotistical presuming they had the 'answers'. The M & M story shows them to be elitist
pricks never realized that because you can get away with something, doesn't mean you should. EGO = Road to Douchery

That's the thing. He also said the Beatles were shit ... but he is comparing these pop/rock guys to John Coltrane and Miles Davis.

Unfair comparison.

Yeah, I guess. I don't think the Eagles have really been the Eagles since they fired Don Felder. And especially now that Glenn Frey is dead.

Yes, they OWNED the 70's soft-rock genre, their sound was unique and unmistakable, their harmonies as unique as any of the great groups. Nobody else sounded like the Eagles, they get credit for writing a ton of cheesy hits...

But they were insufferable bastards.

I can live with all of that - the one HUGE knock I have with Henley is that he's a hypocrite of the first degree. Dead 16 year old hooker found in his bed, he had the brass balls to release 'Dirty Laundry'.

Fuck him for that alone. I'm sure the girls family loved it.

I can't take much classic rock any more. The impact that the greats had - from the big 4 - the Beatles, Stones, Who and Zep - to the second tier stadium bands like the Eagles - I can barely listen to that stuff anymore.

Once in a blue moon though, I drift back and yes, I'll cue up Hotel California - cause in 77', when they signed Joe Walsh, it really was a perfect moment, a perfect album.

I think that sums it up pretty well....

For me, I guess they just dominated the airwaves when I was in my formative years for the first time hearing music (Born in '76).

My mom used to drive me to daycare in her '69 blue Camaro and that's just the the music I remember from those early years.
Bitchin' Camaro!
