Two names I like for OC ..

NYBEN1963 : 2/12/2018 8:41 am
One with a ton of experience and one that can be groomed by Shurmur.
1- Jim Caldwell a long time coach and a outstanding playcaller and quite frankly a pretty good HC as well I really think he got a raw deal in Detroit. He would be perfect to work with Shurmur learn his offense then take over playcalling the following season.

2-Ike Hilliard has been a coach in the league for close to ten years, and may be ready to take that next step. One of the things everyone said about Hilliard as a player is that he had great smarts on the field and knew the assignments of all the WR positions. Would love to see him promoted and groomed as the next OC. Would much rather have Ike than Staley if the plan is to promote someone with no prior OC experience.
would you suggest Hilliard

if he hadn't played for the Giants? I want coaches, not former players.

Seriously doubt Caldwell would consider OC under Shurmur -- it's not just a step down but a step and a half, considering Shurmur will be calling plays. BTW, EVERY HC in Detroit gets a raw deal; it still doesn't mean Caldwell is a good HC. His game management and in-game decisions were notorious around here. That said, yeah, he might be a good OC for us.

Hilliard -- Yeah, maybe. I know nothing about his coaching history/ability, but if he's under Shurmur's wing, might be as good as anyone else out there.
Ike Hilliard

has only worked with WRs. I'd think he'd need some QB coaching before he becomes an OC.
Caldwell

Is an interesting choice. But is there a connection between him and Shurmur?
I disagree that Caldwell is a good fit.
Section331 : 2/12/2018 9:55 am : link
Shurmer runs a WCO hybrid, I don't believe Caldwell has ever worked within a WCO scheme. That, and not calling plays would be a huge step down for a SB-winning coach.
How about

Jim Fassel?

Ben McAdoo?
Fassel gets a bad rap
GiantsLaw : 2/12/2018 11:02 am : link
went 10-5-1 with Kannel/Brown in '97 (NFCE champs)
went 8-8 with Kannel/Graham in '98
went 7-9 with Collins/Graham in '99
went 12-4 with Collins in '00 (NFCE & NFC champs)
went 7-9 with Collins in '01
went 10-6 with Collins in '02
went 4-12 with Collins/Palmer in '03

There were certainly some heartbreaking losses and it all fell apart in '03, but he was a pretty good coach considering the QBs he had. He's certainly not in the McAdoo/H----y class. His off the field antics cost him his coaching career.

I agree. I was only half joking. He checks all the boxes for what the giants need right now in an OC/QB coach. (If he wasn’t out of the league for so long)

Not following you..isn't Duce Staley a former player? Hilliard has been coaching close to 10 years

There isn't one and maybe that is a good thing

The problem is that there is no connection with the types of offenses they've run. Caldwell would be an uninspired choice, and he wouldn't become an OC unless he could at least call plays, if not design the O.

Seattle when Seattle had a good line. as OC. His line schemes and within shurmers overall O.

.
Todd Downing former Oakland Raiders OC...
GFAN52 : 2/12/2018 12:16 pm : link
is a name I think you could see.
Coach Shurmur....
Emlen'sGremlins : 2/12/2018 12:33 pm : link
....doesn't strike me as a Jim Fassel kind of guy.
Ohio State OC
Big Rick in FL : 2/12/2018 12:42 pm : link
Ryan Day is a guy I'd keep an eye on also. Worked under Shurmur with the Eagles in 2015. Young guy with QB coach experience.
Have to have an OC with an excellent resume

And Caldwell has that ...his work with Flacco as both QB coach and OC proves that.Flacco had his best years under Caldwell.he has not been nearly as good since Caldwell left.

I think Vrabel already tried to pry Day away and tOSU gave him a raise and promotion.
Call me crazy but

kinda wouldn't mind Fassel back here either. Not sure how in touch he is now, but would be a nice redemption story for him and with the team if it were able to work out.

No...been there done that with Fassel. Plus the fact he'll be 69 when the season begins. Shurmur is calling the plans in any event.

I don't think he has a place here. I don't think he'd be accepted by the fans or media. Not sure his ego would allow it either.

That’s a good one. Didn’t think of that one. And Shurmur might have been waiting until after signing day to hire him. We’ll see
How does Fassel’s 7 seasons compare to Coughlin’s first 7 or last
Ivan15 : 2/12/2018 4:32 pm : link
7 seasons?
Charlie Weis
GeorgeAdams33 : 2/12/2018 4:54 pm : link
I would love to see Weis get the OC job. He always said that his dream job would be to be the head coach of the Giants. OC is a good consolation prize.
So what's Chris Palmer doing these days?
