who has not been utilized for majority of the defensive snaps..
BUT -- with only 1 year left on his deal, I would be willing to eat that cost for his situational use and locker room presence.
Bettcher may have a different opinion than Spags in terms of utilizing his skill set as well.
Once you let him walk in 2019, the Giants should gain a positive with regards to a comp pick as well.
The issue with his playing time was more nagging injuries and the belief that his body couldn't withstand 100% of the snaps. Not a belief in how to use him.
As for the comp pick, they'd likely net something but their may not be a ton of teams lining up for a 33 year old CB and comp picks are based partly on the size of the contract.
RE: RE: I know DRC has a decent sized cap hit for a player.. Â
Also, with the Eli Apple situation I'm not sure the Giants should cut a proven player like DRC. Starting 3 CBs next season could very well be Jenkins, DRC, and Cockrell. Why start Apple, even if he is on the team. All three of those players outplayed him in 2017.
RE: Preferably, you need a consistent strong tackler at FS Â

The issue was both his playing time and his utilization. He was on the sidelines while Apple was in there in some defensive sets, and then later in the year when Cockrell was in there.
He had a problem with the coaches, which is one of the reasons he ended up getting into a couple of sideline arguments and went to the locker room early at the end of a game.
Normally, I'd pin that on DRC because he's always walked a fine line, but last year was such a shitshow and so poorly led that he probably was in the right.
Doubtful that there will be many cuts unless it is for cap adjustments Â
is there a benefit to cut loose certain contracts before the league year starts?
I know a poster made a thread with the Giants having a history of cutting loose vets during the month of February...Is it a good faith thing to allow them to prepare for FA?
Also, don't know how much self-scouting they've done...

No, Bettcher didn't get there until 2013 and didn't become the DC until 2015.
Yeah agree completely. I highly doubt they have not been "self scouting". Things will heat up soon I suspect. Free Agency is around the corner.

DRC has also indicated a willingness to move to FS
I thought (last offseason at least) that DRC was reluctant to move to FS. Where did you see he was willing to make the switch?
Preferably, you need a consistent strong tackler at FS.

Exit interviews at the end of this season. I'm sure you can find them on Giants.com.
Agreed

I'm with you on this one. Ball in the air he would be pretty damn good i think.
But i would hold my breath with him tackling and being the last line of defense.
Another thing to consider, can he hold up playing safety?

Perhaps after the Giants start to sign new players, there will be cuts.
