If Reese was still GM, who would he take at #2?

Stan in LA : 2/12/2018 2:09 pm
I say Bradley Chubb. No QB since he took Webb.

Speaking of Reese

I remember a lot of past posts over the years saying that if he was ever let go that he would be quickly snatched up by another team.

Has there been any rumors of any team showing interest in him?
I think he'd force the pick
Section331 : 2/12/2018 2:23 pm : link
and choose an OL. Maybe Nelson and try to make him a LT.
who cares
Essex : 2/12/2018 2:23 pm : link
he isn't
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo.
Ryan in Albany : 2/12/2018 2:25 pm : link
Looks like a Reese pick to me.
He's pick one of the QB's,
barens : 2/12/2018 2:31 pm : link
or Barkley. Geez, some people are trying too hard.

He had a bad run towards the end of his tenure, but he was far from a bad GM.
An undersized TE or slow DE

His reputation preceded himself league wide. Nobody wants that guy.

I think he’s changing urinal cakes in various rest stops along I-95 these days.

We heard this a lot when Reese and his hire Ross (who was also touted as a GM material) were under fire. So far it looks like just so much smoke. It was long over due to move on from that duo. Couglin took the fall for them and Mara.
He absolutely would take a QB.
Britt in VA : 2/12/2018 2:50 pm : link
He didn't/doesn't want Eli, because Eli didn't have the ability to escape from his porous o-line. It would be his latest attempt to deflect attention from the disaster offensive line.

When he was let go, it was reported that he was thinking of retiring. He had been apart of the organization for 20 + years.
Awesome thread

let's continue to bash Reese once he's gone by guessing who he would theoretically take in the 2018 draft that which he isn't the GM of the team
What I just said isn't a bash....
Britt in VA : 2/12/2018 2:56 pm : link
just what I believe would have happened based on Reese's own words.

I think QB play in the NFL is trending more to the mobility side due to the lack of offensive line talent being produced at the NCAA level. It's one of the hardest positions to draft now a days due to the spread.
Move on.........

Reese is no longer the Giants' GM. He brought TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS to the franchise. Very few GMs accomplished that in the NFL (whole) history.

Show some RESPECT.

When the Reese must go talk started in 2012-3 or so, he would've been snatched up quickly.

After a half decade of terrible teams, no. Nobody would want him. I think Marc Ross ends up with a job in the NFL again before Reese does.

The current prevailing theory right now is that Reese is what kept us from winning 4-5 and that anything positive he ever did for the Giants was really Accorsi or Gettleman.
He'd pick Barkley - "just a clean guy, explosive athlete, only 20 yo"

Or RB; either of which would have been 2 nd or 3rd rounders.
He loved reaches and weapons....especially for a new offensives miinded HC.
OL and/ or LB in the 5th / 6th---See ' reaches' above.

To be fair, it took Coughlin a year to get a job after being fired.

Not many executives or coaches jump right into another job right after being fired.

Completely fair and I am sure he is taking a year to send some time with his family. God knows being a GM doesn't mean you get to be with your family as often.

History will be kinder to Reese than most of the resident BBI revisionist historians.

Reese was the GM for those two SB Championships. Peroid!

Gettleman is on the clock now. It's one thing to win a press conference but winning a Superbowl is a different animal. Tic tock........

I respect his ability to deflect, blame and cause the downfall of virtually everyone else around him and then get $200 million from the owners to cover his failures while he continued to put a shitty product out on the field. That takes real talent.
If Reese was still GM, who would he take at #2?
M.S. : 2/12/2018 5:15 pm : link

He would announce Saquon Barkley, "The JPP of running backs."
He would take the player generally projected
Mr. Bungle : 2/12/2018 5:25 pm : link
to go somewhere in the late teens and then say, "He was the highest-rated player on our board."
fitzpatrick

.
He did go personally
NikkiMac : 2/12/2018 6:01 pm : link
To scout Josh Rosen before he was canned!
Reese would NOT take a QB in the first round.
Sarcastic Sam : 2/12/2018 6:14 pm : link
His MO is pretty clear.

6th round- Andre Woodson
5th round - Rhett Bomar
4th round - Ryan Nassib
3rd round - Davis Webb

He would have picked a QB in the 2nd round though. Fer sho.
Reese would NOT have taken a QB at 2
Jay on the Island : 2/12/2018 7:05 pm : link
Because he drafted Webb in the 3rd round last year and Reese was patient to a fault with his draft picks. He would almost certainly take either Chubb or Barkley at 2 and justify passing on a QB saying that they had a higher grade on Webb than they do on any QB in the draft. We all know Reese wouldn't trade down because he has never done so in his entire tenure here.
Fuck The lazy Reese
big canoe jeff : 2/12/2018 7:51 pm : link
Yea both him and Ross still looking for jobs then again knowing Mara still getting paid well
Rhett Bomar had an absolute bazooka for an arm

never saw anyone throw like that at camp. Too bad he didn't have the total goods

permanently in the NFL. Five years too late IMO. May have cost ELI the Hall and Coughlin his job. TC should have been our GM but shit happens.

The end of the Eli era would have come right after because it’s time however it became the end of the JR era instead time will prove who was the real culprit.
Mayfield
Jay in Toronto : 2/13/2018 3:07 am : link
Giants.com would show videos of his back flips and Reese would crown him:

The JPP of quarterbacks.
I think for years Reese was about Self preservation
SLIM_ : 2/13/2018 6:36 am : link
so my leaning would be to draft a QB which would allow him another grace period as the new guy gets groomed. He would also push the narrative of Webb being a great talent and they would ultimately be able to trade him for a #1.

On the other hand, I think he would have been under a directive that it needs to be turned around immediately so he would go with a non-QB pick.

One thing I'm sure of - he wouldn't have traded it.
Barkley
steve in maryland : 2/13/2018 11:36 am : link
Reese always picked skill positions or cbs. Barkley and Nelson are the best players but a guard....Reese always looking for olinemen like david diehl and rich seubert in later round.
Think Barkely
TMS : 2/22/2018 8:47 pm : link
, Chubb or Harrison PHillips. All instant starters for years. Thats what you want from the second pick in the draft.
Some of you guys...
Chris in Philly : 2/22/2018 8:53 pm : link
are douchebags.
He would take the 4th best Cornerback
Jimmy Googs : 2/22/2018 9:10 pm : link

He would take a WR or a CB

I agree with Slim. Both Reese and McAdoo were in self preservation mode.
