What current defensive player on the roster will make

Giantimistic : 2/12/2018 9:34 pm
What current defensive player on the roster will make the biggest improvement with the new coaching staff? Thought of in another way, who are you most excited to see in this new defense. It will be interesting to see how the new coaching staff/GM evaluate our current roster. Do they think the D under performed or had better talent then they showed.

We have a new D Coordinator and new system. There is a good chance many of the players we already have will be used in a different way. The Cardinals, with our current coordinator wanted JPP to play in a 3-4. I also understand that some players will be coming off of injuries. Vernon could go through a whole season without getting injured. Apple could have a mental turnaround. Okwara showed some promise. How is Landon Collins going to be used?

I am probably most curious how JPP will be used but I think we may have already seen his best, back before the hand. I keep expecting great things from Vernon, but I do not have high hopes.

Although Collins is one year removed from being considered for the DPOY, I think he will thrive. I thought he was one of our best blitzers, but do not remember him blitzing as much this past season. I think, hope, this new staff will use him in a more disruptive way. He was still good last year so, it may not be the "biggest" improvement for instance if Okwara become a probowl player, but I think he will be in the running again for DPOY.

Eli

Defense:
Vernon, I think Vernon is going to have a career season under Bettcher. Bettcher is very good at utilizing his pass rushers. Runner up is Dalvin Tomlinson.
if he's still here

hopefully Eli Apple.
Alternative vote: Also if still here: Dennard.
I'm anxious to see Kennard in a 3-4

really the whole defense I'm really curious about.

Love the Bettcher hire.
Jack Rabbit makes the all pro team

Playing more man to man, more blitz, less time to cover, big year for the jack rabbit. Snacks has a big year every year... would be really nice if we got double digit sacks from the guys that are supposed to get the double digit sacks according to their w-2’s.. yeah you OV, and you JPP.

Players does this team have any of those sure did not look like it last year. Collins is a solid tackler but way overrated by all to many, he can’t cover deep that’s not going to change. They will also all be learning a new defense and your expecting them to become good all of a sudden start praying now the Gods have pity on your kneecaps. Teams learning new defenses normally take two years or more but no concerns here these are the super bowl ready Giants “C’MON MAN”.
Eli Apple

Eli A because he gets a fresh start and has a few months to think about it.

Eli M because we'll be running a grown up offense.
For the Giants sake

and his own, I hope it’s Collins. Right now the chasm between reputation and impact is wider for this player than any DB since Roy Williams. He was terrible in coverage last season. Not bad-terrible . The high-profile hits perpetuate the fraud that Collins is one of the league’s best defenders.

but is anyone else really disappointed with Darian Thompson’s play last year?

I really think Andrew Adams while less physically gifted in terms of speed, had much better instincs and was around the ball more.

Maybe it was the fan hype around DT, but his first year starting was not good...and in order for the Giants to use Collins like they need to, the other Safety(ies) need to be able to cover and make the right reads.

I think DRC if he moves to Saftey

He could be great in that system as a center fielder. Alt least for 1 year.

I think D.T. will improve greatly under new leadership. Injury long over. Like Adams also. Clean slate people.

That said, safety is not on my 'do not draft' list (wr is, for example).
Ross Cockrell ...
Manny in CA : 2/13/2018 12:06 pm : link

Has just started to show what he can do. I think he was the best defensive player on the team, toward the end of the season.

If he keeps coming on strong, he just might make Eli Apple (and his neurotic behavior) a distant memory.
It was weird cockrell
