Good read: RB class analysis by Jon Ledyard

To me, when Guice is healthy there is nothing important that he lacks as a back. He has the agility, vision, speed, elusiveness, power and decision-making to be an elite running back in the NFL, and he plays every snap like it is his last. He won’t be the first back off the board, but he will be the best if he stays healthy and lands in a solid situation.

To deny that there is an element of preference to this would be foolish. I like to know what I’m getting in my backs, I like consistency and I like the ability to finish runs with an edge. I think Barkley is an exceptional talent that will likely be a top 10-12 player on my board, but in the end, he finished slightly behind two backs that I believe possess the vital traits that Barkley is still developing.

Rosen's the top RB prospect?

I didn't expect that.
Interesting

He has Rashaad Penny as an early Day 3 pick, which would put him in the 4th round. I'd like to see that. If we could wait on RB and Darnold, OT, OG in rounds 1 through 3, and still land Penny...that is a dream scenario.

Yeah yeah, I know, what about defense? Have you seen this team? Offense needs so much help. We can go defense the rest of the draft for all I care if that's how it played out.
I think his analysis stinks based on what I read

I think his methodology is sound as far as it goes. But having watched a lot of these guys play I think it depends on the indivisiuals eye becuase I don't agree with his conclusions on several of these players. There is also a huge hole in his criteria, effective pass catching ability is not to be dismissed and he barely touched on it.
Too many holes on this roster

to take a RB in the first couple of rounds.

RB has the shortest career span, it is not a position you build around. It is like the icing on the cake. Having a guy like Bell or Gurley is a nice luxury, but it is not necessary to be successful in the NFL.

Look at what the Eagles were able to find- UDFA Corey Clement. Giants had Bradshaw, a 7th rounder, for all those years. The Pats have an UDFA, Lewis, as their top guy.

I like Gallman, I think the Giants should look to find a guy in round 5 or 6 to complement him. Ballage is interesting to me.

Also, John Kelly, University of Tennessee. Has a very similar game to Clement, also Kamara

I disagree. You can find any position at any time in the draft. This is a great class of backs. Whoever falls to our third pick will be worthwhile and likely the best back we've had in years.

I like his criteria, but think pass catching and protection should be prioritized more than he does. Still, it seems to me that vision is THE most important thing that the great NFL backs have in common. I like that he puts it as a priority. Would you agree? IMO There will be a number of backs that meet the size/speed/strength requirements and a lot fewer that have the vision. Have not seen a lot of tape so can't comment on his conclusions, but the method does seem solid.
I'm not wild about Ballage for a lot of reasons.

But I think post Combine he'll be a hotter commodity. Watching video of him, he's not only fast for a larger RB, he's just fast. Once he's in the open field he can fly and make DB's look like they're standing still. I expect him to turn in a sizzling 40.

So if you're hiring to run the 40, he's a good choice. Otherwise, I don't want him.

I agree. Gallman looks good, Perkins may be salvageable and among the rest of the roster there are likely some useful RB's. There will be late round and and UDFA opportunity to add specialty RB's. Every RB you get doesn't have to do everything. Just the things you need to get done.

I like Chunn, Smith and Hinds late.
