that it was only the ACL. Meniscus damage would have created a longer timeline. Some guys have come back in 6-7 months from an ACL. I don't think the Knicks need to be all that aggressive with him as they will probably stink next year too. I think there is a solid chance we see him at the end of this year, but def by the beginning of 2019, unless there is a setback.
Hopefully they play it safe with his recovery. The Knicks are going to be awful next year without him. The goal should be to have him fully 100% to the start of the 2019-2020 season.
The question for the off-season is do the Knicks extend him? Will he take less because of the injury ?
if you can get KP on board with that, that's the ideal scenario. Then we could add the necessary talent around him to be competitive. Things don't work like that for the Knicks though. He'll prbably want his payday asap, just like everyone else the knicks deal with.

Yeah I would say look what wade did in Miami, they were able to get 3 guys together, we can do that here..
If I am kp I am on the phone with kyrie and kawhi and saying let's make a big 3 in New york....
Knicks meanwhile have to hit on this years pick and next year's pick and have develop at minimum 1 of Frank, mudiay or burke
If the Knicks try talking KP into waiting a year for his new contract in order to open up cap space, this is my prediction: KP agrees to wait a year, the Knicks strike out in free agency, KP leaves for another team out of spite.
Even if I turn off my pessimism, I struggle with risking a delay in KP's new salary based on the way his brother talks to the media. KP always seems to say the right thing... his brother not so much. Even with the amount of warts that KP has, if the Knicks figure out a way to lose him it would obviously be the the worst case scenario. I'd rather be safe than sorry with his new contract.
Pay that man his money. Let all the current contracts naturally fall of the books and try again in 2020. Maybe the Knicks get lucky with the draft in the mean time. That's what I would do.
1. Hit a home run in this lottery
2. Develop Mudiay Burke Frank
3. Get rid of Lee and Thomas contract prior to 2019 without taking on more sakary
4. Find a new coach
5. Stretch Noah in 2019
6. Be extra careful with KP. Not rushing him back
7. Tank in 2018
8. Hit another home run in 2019 draft
9. Pray that they can sign free Agent Kyrie or Kawhi or both in 2019 summer
10. Do not resign Kanter in 2019 for any significant money. And I bet he picks up his player option next year
But I think both sides should sit down this off season and discuss what both sides are looking for in the future..
Meaning Knicks put on the table their rebuilding plan and kp put on the table what he wants to see from the knicks...
They discuss parameters of a deal but in my opinion Knicks should tell him part of the plan is having cap space to add an all star next to you
I'm with you on this and its the smart thing to do. But if you were KP would you do it? They can verbally commit to giving him the max but unless it's in writing, what guarantee does KP have? If he blows out the same knee next year, will they still give him the max?
This injury really complicates this. The good news is that the kickers that allow him to get the supermax ( 30% of cap) are very unlikely now. I hope I'm wrong, but its hard to picture him getting All NBA, DPOY or MVP next year. Thus the financial incentive for him to sign this offseason is most likely gone.

He did the surgery along with Altchuk

He did my ACL reconstruction, and while I'm no pro athlete, I was doing P90X, 6 days a week, 7 months later.
He did the surgery along with Altchuk
Then in my humble opinion, he's in good shape
