Sy, which LBs are you high on this year?

yatqb : 2/13/2018 4:41 pm
We need to keep in mind that we've got two major position groups to fix this offseason, not just the OL.

Would you be content with Evans in the 2nd? Vander Esch?
assuming they draft the QB @2
Giantsfan79 : 2/13/2018 4:46 pm : link
aren't they almost locked into trying to get the next Chris Snee in round 2. No time for linebacker talk.
Are there any sure thing
superspynyg : 2/13/2018 4:48 pm : link
lber prospects this year like Keuchley or Khail?
Everything depends upon free agency. We'll know what hopes we have
yatqb : 2/13/2018 4:49 pm : link
to fill once the draft approaches.

I'd lean towards the OL as well at 34, but you can't just pick for position...talent rules.
Has Sy
Beer Man : 2/13/2018 4:50 pm : link
started his LB analysis? He was just completing the OL this week.
I haven't seen that many, but Roquan Smith looks like a good one.
Ira : 2/13/2018 5:03 pm : link
He's smart, tough and quick. He'll probably go mid to late first. Tremaine Edmunds may be a better athlete than Smith, but people say he struggles with the mental aspect of the game.
Hoping that many QBs get taken
NikkiMac : 2/13/2018 5:43 pm : link
In the first round thereby pushing a lot of good players to our 2nd round pick.
Frank Ginda is a guy I like in the later rounds
Gatorade Dunk : 2/13/2018 5:52 pm : link
I'm not saying that he alone solves the dearth of LB talent on the roster, but I think he'll be a very solid LB for whatever team ends up with him.
Iíd rather see them dip into Free Agency at the LB position
Earl the goat : 2/13/2018 5:53 pm : link
Then draft one
Kareem Martin played for Bettcher. Jerry Attachou is also a free Agent

Itís not Webbís fault but why he was such a stupid Reese pick. Is that redundant? And letís pray they. get the next Snee and not the next Beatty or Richberg
How many LBs do you think are needed?
Ivan15 : 2/13/2018 6:21 pm : link
If Vernon and JPP are both playing the edge in a 3-4, and one is dropping down when showing a 4-3, how many more starters?

Are you figuring that a lot of depth is needed?
Webb
Alwaysblue22 : 2/13/2018 6:29 pm : link
I don't think anyone knows enough about Webb to assume he stinks. The assumption is based on the fact that he was taken in Rd 3 and was drafted by Reese. Tom Brady was a sixth round pick..so round proves nothing definitive. Reese and Ross were not weak drafting at the skill positions. The QB is a skill position. David Wilson was a great RB before his injury. Reese and Ross sucked at drafting O-linemen and line backers. They had a BLIND spot for some reason at those positions that really hurt the team. Gettlemen wants to concentrate on those areas that Reese did not properly fill in, and build out from there. Lets see what happens during free agency and what occurs at the combines before the draft. Then we will have a better idea what they will do at #2 in the draft.

Thatís how bad teams stay bad. No chance Iím taking a Guard if a much better player is available at LB.
This is why I like a pool system
idiotsavant : 2/13/2018 7:52 pm : link
Assume a pool of 10 positions with three of them repeated. So that's seven. You establish that discipline and focus prior to.

But, presumably you would have both lb and g in that pool, thuscyear, maybe 2 of each, you can then flow to best and opportunity within that pool. So in your scenario, where the lb is clearly better, it's a no brainier. Later in the draft, when the differences are not as clear, your list is shorter, but that's OK given the question marks are there anyway across the board.

Yeah and that strategy has really worked out well the last six years. Here is another way bad teams stay bad. They donít address their shortcomings.
Op title
idiotsavant : 2/13/2018 8:30 pm : link
Somehow the idea of Sy getting high on linebackers strikes me as funny
Possibly rounds one and two
idiotsavant : 2/13/2018 8:46 pm : link
Are games in and of themselves.

Pool system for 3 through 7.

Rounds 3-7 that's 5 picks. You get 7 position chits, three of which can be repeated.

So that's ten. Plenty of flexibility for those rounds.

You cannot draft outside of the pool. But within the pool it's pure BPA. Team centric method but bpa . zero positional bias within the pool. After each pick - you discard that chit.

So, whereas there may be a QB in round one or two, you probably wouldn't list that in your pool of 7+3 for 3 through 7, for example.
Great draft for LB's
Breeze_94 : 2/13/2018 9:05 pm : link
especially when you consider the where the Giants draft in Rd 2 and 3, I think they are in a bit of a "sweet-spot"

The ILB/4-3 LB class is strong. I think Edmunds and Roquan Smith both go around the 9-15 range in round 1.

My question is who can be available at pick 34?
Rashaan Evans is a 1st round talent, but not on the level of Edmunds or Roquan. Could he slip to pick 34?

Harold Landry is an intriguing edge prospect- he was great in 2016. Most thought he was a consensus top 10 guy heading into the season, but now he is being projected end of round 1/2ns round in some mocks due to a down year in 2017 as a result of injuries. There is a chance he is available at 34.

Whats the deal with Arden Key? Great talent, but is he stable enough off the field? Can he be trusted? It seems like he has fallen out of the 1st round discussion, but it will be tough to pass on this kind of talent at the top of round 2.

Round 3- Leighton Vander Esch- This guy is impressive. He has some Clay Matthews in his game when Matthews played ILB.

Hercules Mata'afa played out of position in college as Wash ST. But he has the quickest first step in the draft. Incredibly quick. Very Osi-like. 6'3, 252lbs- can he play the edge in Bettcher's scheme? He barely ever lined up at the edge at WAZZU, instead they opted to play him inside for reasons unknown.

Late round- Shaun-Dion Hamilton- if he can stay healthy, someone is getting a steal here. This guy is solid. Good enough athlete, physical hitter. Smart player. The leader of Alabama's D when he is on the field. Not the athlete that CJ Mosley/Reuben Foster/Rashaan Evans were coming out, but he can be a starter at ILB health permitting.

Darius Leonard- small school guy who can run and got a ton of buzz at the senior bowl. I don't know much about him, but he is 6'3, 230, and can run and cover a bit.

Fred Warner- another guy I like late. I think he is a 4-3 WILL type of guy, reminds me of Keenan Robinson (healthy). Good in space, lanky, and does a good job in coverage.

Lorenzo Carter
Breeze_94 : 2/13/2018 9:09 pm : link
similar to Leonard Floyd coming out. Tall (6'6) and athletic. A bit angular, only weights in the 240's. But he is a great athlete who can do a bit of everything. He can apply pressure off the edge, is a GREAT run defender, and has some ability in coverage, especially while playing the flat.

UGA coaching staff thought very highly of him- even saying that he could play CB in a pinch. He is that good of an athlete. Round 3 guy right now. He is going to blow up the combine. If you loved Floyd, you should love Carter.

I've been lurking here since the "Forum," was called "Pete's Corner," and I've seen a lot of bullshit posts. No one however, has used so much prose, to say so little, since I've been reading. Step back, take a breath, and post what's on your mind; not what you think some dim witted editor wants to hear. Fuck, relax man.

You can't be real. There is no way even a borderline functional human can type this nonsense seriously.

so the draft ends after round 2? Good to know. Fuck this place keeps getting stupider.
What would be nice
NikkiMac : 2/14/2018 6:09 am : link
Is many QBs and RBs come off the board in the first round pushing some really good players to us at pk #34
One ILB I like
Jay on the Island : 2/14/2018 9:27 am : link
who could be the Giants version of Ryan Shazier at ILB in the 3-4 is Boise State LB Leighton Vander Esch.
Round 3 option
KWALL2 : 2/14/2018 4:33 pm : link
Turay from......

Yeah.....Rutgers but donít dismiss him because of that.

Hes a unique player and could be a 3rd round steal. Got to check on the medical stuff but when he is healthy heís got a game that could make him an impact NFL player.

Heís got the pass rush ability and can do it in many ways. Explosive off the ball. Good hand work. And heís got the sick agility and bend. In year 1, heíll be a pass rushing weapon.

I donít know why but RU did not use him enough even when he was healthy. Occasionally he made a bonehead play in space or zone coverage but they blew it with Turay. The defensive game plan should have been how do we put him in position to get after the QB.

He should have been a 10+ sack guy. The pass rush ability is clear as day. This is a very explosive player who plays hard.

Giants going with some 3-4 looks? Put him on the outside. Vernon in the other side. JPP stays at DE. He would give us a huge pass rush boost.

What round? Before Sr Bowl I thought maybe 4. But he kicked ass at the Sr Bowl. Now itís hopefully heís there in 3.

At the combine he will rip it up too. So he may be a 2nd rounder. But Iíd like to chance to get him in round 3 for NYG.

Think Edge rusher Turay in round 3!
OK guys. Relax.

A rant about process rather than players.

But I actually had a far, far better average of picking them pre draft than either of you two grumpy old bastards. When I still did that.

Not going to waste my time but it's probably still in the archives. Deihl. Jacobs. Cruz. Etc.
Granted. Mixed in with the usual bullshit I put out
idiotsavant : 2/14/2018 5:15 pm : link
But yes. Freebluelove, alligator pie.

Last two years drafts when i advocated drafting O line early and often you same two assholes probably laughed at that too.

How'd that work out?

It's probably in the archives. Go check it out when you're in there proving that you knew about Cruz before the draft.

You're missing the point - your knowledge isn't the issue. Your incoherent nonsense that accompanies every point that you try to make is distracting (and in some cases, indecipherable). It's bizarre.
OK. That's actually fair dunk
idiotsavant : 2/14/2018 5:47 pm : link
I was expecting you to pile on bully style. Mea culpa on the incoherent jibble jabble.

But. One thing I've learned. Knowledgeable people in all walks of life don't like unconventional types and will often feel an instinctive urge to shut them down.

And our society is the lesser for it.

Because, if and when, trends are going in the wrong direction (last year. You ingrates ,I told you...the lines ...Mac ball) there is nobody left that deviates from that norm. That goes beyond sports. Those guys are those types of assholes. NIMBYs.
