Thinking about heading there in May with some friends. Guys trip. Want to chill, fish, drink some beer.
Any suggestions on where and where not to stay? Location preferences?
Any input is helpful
Thanks
going on in relation to latin/caribbean countries. Is Cabo as safe as it once was? No. But the chances of running into problems are low, assuming one uses common sense. Been to Cabo with buddies a few times and its always a great trip.
has been to every state in Mexico (working) for the better part of 12 years and has driven more miles in Mexico & Central America than anyone else you are likely to come across on an internet chat board, I agree with the guy a few slots above that Cabo--like Cancun or Playa del Carmen--is at best only fractionally less safe than it has ever been. If you're cool and you use a bit of discretion you will be fine. Someone who acts like the stereotypical spring-break jackass who's looking for trouble will likely find it--same as always.
That said, those places are pretty lame in my opinion. If you want a cool non-US spot to drink beer and go fishing that offers intrigue beyond the tired tourist cliches, I would suggest one of the islands of Belize, like Caye Caulker.
Sandos Finisterra Cabo San Lucas is absolutely the best place to go, and right across the street from the marina where almost everything you want to do is located.
RE: I don’t remember where I drank and stuff but Â
Go deep sea fishing. It’s aweskme. I caught a marlin.
Steve, seriously, what did you do with the marlin? Catch/release, cook it up, sold it?
Very serious. Took me almost two hours to reel the thing in. Once I got it in, they realized the type of marlin I caught was out of season by literally two days. Had to release it. I would have anyway. I love fishing and that was a great experience.
owns a house in San Jose. So peaceful, and amazing golf courses. San Lucas which is about a 30 min drive, is insane but in a good way. Cabo Wabo (Sammy Hagars place) is a good time. touristy...yes, but I like it. Like others have said, look for trouble, and you'll find it. Stay within your group, enjoy yourself, and you'll be fine. Also, keep in the back of your mind you're a guest in another country, act accordingly.
a couple months and cartel guys murdered two guys with shots to their heads, only 100 or so yards from them on the beach. He sent me pics of the victims that his driver took, who was sitting only a couple cars away from where it happened. Crazy shit. Driver was really shaken up.
Supposedly this stuff has overflowed even into tourist areas in Mexico of late. Tourists aren't targeted, but still...a lot of other great places to go IMO.
Fishing rec - Gordo Banks Panga's. Eric Brictson is the guy. Very reasonable prices and great fishing. Got a nice 40lb Wahoo and several yellofin tuna. Link below.
Yes there has been some issues in the area. There was a shootout while we were there in Aug but I did feel plenty safe. I am looking forward to going back. Gordo Banks - ( New Window )

As someone who has been to Cabo multiple times a year the past 5 or so years, I would say you're in store for a fantastic guys weekend.
