NFT: Tech Nerds and Gaming Heads....

MotownGIANTS : 2/14/2018 3:12 pm
What is the best (affordable & quality combo - balance) for TV that will primarily be used as a monitor for a gaming laptop. Occasionally it will be used show a 2nd game. Going in the man cave so natural light is part of the considerations.

60in 4K (smart TV would be ideal not a must).

Thanks in advance for the suggestions .... the real suggestions.
TCL P series or 6 series if you wait
RudyRudyRudy : 2/14/2018 3:59 pm : link
your choices are going to be 55" or 65" probably best bang for the buck. also low latency, which is what you need for gaming. ROKU OS is built in. the 6 series isn't out yet, but the previews at CES were fantastic. that is the upgraded series from the P series, which was last years' models.
55" P series - ( New Window )
What’s your budget?

Gaming displays on a budget always have a compromise, so I’ll ask what’s your preference and how’s the machine(s) you’ll hookup to it

-Resolution (4k)
-Image/Color quality (HDR support)
-Display size
-Framerate (my preference especially with my PC and Xb1X)

I bought an M series Vizio a couple years ago for about 550 on sale. Supports 4k/60 and HDR (Dolby Vision and HDR10)..very happy with the purchase.

What are your needs?
Xbox One X

300 to 500 is all I really want to spend.
I'd rather just connect my Xbox One X

and my laptop to the new TV. Which is the plan ... at the "new" TV is just "fluff".
Another vote for TCL sets.

Great TVs with Roku built in. Ordered mine off Amazon. The delivery company missed my delivery window and Amazon ended up knocking some $$$ off my order. Set arrived in perfect condition.

Good stuff,

If you aren’t too worried about future proofing you could def get a good deal on a 1080p display and skip 4k altogether..

If the laptop can handle refresh rates over 60, i’m sure there are tvs you can snag on a deal for under 500 if you look to spend a bit more.
Doesn’t seem your gonna use it for 4k with a gaming laptop...the smoother picture would serve better for the application imo..

Good luck!

Thanks! yeah I see what you are saying my video card will only handle 30FPS for gaming at 4k ... Guess I need to consider what the new rig build will use as a video card ... may just do a pawn shop purchase just prior to football season to tide me over, barring a good unforeseen deal.
