JUST A THOUGHT

MarineMan : 2/15/2018 11:08 am
I remember the Eli draft and a lot of people didn’t want him in NY. People felt that the GM gave up to much to get Eli. This man put not one but 2 Super Bowl trophies in the case. That also came with a strong running game and a collective group of defensive players that plowed through offensive lines. Those teams put a whip ass on the Patriots twice. I know that is in the past. There are some that say the Rosen and Darnold are next elite QB. I may get hammered for this but the one thing Davis Webb has over these guys is, he sat behind Eli for a full year. A lot of people are going by they know nothing about Webb. The only thing on Rosen and Darnold is what they did in college and you know that is all they have on Webb, is college and a preseason game with minimum playing time that is it. Yeah he is a 3rd Rd pick from Cal. New Coach, new scheme on offense. No one knows what this kid or any newly drafted QB can do until they go to camp and get the chance to play in a NFL game. Hell, any player drafted is a gamble. It depends on the team and what they have around them is what will make them successful. Eli is slated to be the starter for next year. Why draft a QB to sit when you can get a RB that can change how defenses will have to approach the Giants offense. That kid is going to be a match up nightmare for a lot of teams. Get a couple of good OL to plug in and now Eli has less pressure. The wide receiver corps coming back healthy minus Marshall, and the TE group. The offense will be competitive once again. Does anyone think Tom Brady would have been successful with the line, RB and the receiving corps the Giants had in 2017 would have been successful? A QB will throw erratic passes when he has a defense in the backfield all day as soon as his fingertips touch the ball. Eli couldn’t go back 2 steps and he was already in the hands of a defensive player. After OBJ and Shepherd, there was no one. They cut Cruz but kept Lewis and he is inconsistent when it comes to his play. I may get hammered but I would not be unhappy with Barkley. And yes he is also a gamble but what I have seen from him and the potential he brings to a badly needed running game is a must. That way Eli doesn’t have to carry the load on his own. Ok Bombs away!!!!!!

The Giants need to spend their #2 on a QB only if they feel the kid will be their long term solution here. Else, sure take Barkley or Chubb.
You're correct, Webb (and the Giants thoughts on him) is the great
JohnB : 2/15/2018 11:44 am : link
unknown in this draft. I'm assuming that whatever the team's plans for Webb is a closely guarded secret and it will remain that way until the Giants have made their 1st pick. I won't be shocked if the Giants put Webb, with 1 year's experience, on par with any of these QBs coming out this year, who have no pro experience.

Draft day will be interesting.

Barclay and some solid run blocking this offense would be 1000% better. The only games we won last year were when we ran the ball well. If we can't put together a decent running game with some combination of Barclay, Gallman, Perkins, Darkwa, and Vereen we should give up! All of this is contingent of course on parallel improvements in the offensive line as well. I'm not one of the Richburg or Pugh hatters because I think there has been all sort of things going on that were distractions for the entire offensive line.

it would be beneficial for the Giants to have everyone believe they are dead set on taking a QB.

Trade down. Draft many kick ass linesmen on both sides of the ball.

Maybe throw in a couple rbs and lbs and bobs your uncle.

Regain our formerly well known ability to kick up holy ass in the trenches.

Fine with me sir. I'd be down with all that.

This is all a moot point as Cleveland has the #1 pick. Everyone knows it could be a QB or Saquon Barkley. We either select the next QB, select Barkey, or trade down. Gentleman and Company will make that determination as the #1 pick is selected.

As far as Webb is concerned, Shurmer and Shula will see what we have in him and input to Gentleman and Abrams their thoughts.

Eli will start next year, period. Will he be here in two years, who knows?

If Davis Webb is the next QB, we'll find out on draft day.

All of the people who wanted Gallery and Sean Taylor,
they thought Collins with a few additions was good
enough to return to the SB.

When you draft top 4, you come away with a future
Franchise QB, or you trade for boatload of additional
picks. If you choose a non QB, they must be Watts,
LT, Reggie White, Jerry Rice etc etc....if you don't
believe or are not sure your pick will be a first ballot
H of F, don't do it. If our QB is not available with
this draft, then get 1-3 top pick in 2019.

Nobody here knows what Eli has left. There have been
a few games where he looks good and then some where
he hasn't. You can blame the OL, the coaching, the
injuries but Eli is now entering his 15 yr as the
Giant QB. Personally most players even H of F players
don't usually last that long. And the exceptions prove
the rule. By the way, I'm an Eli fan :)

One of the biggest mistakes
Gman11 : 2/15/2018 1:21 pm : link
of the McAdoo regime was to not play Webb during the preseason. They already knew what they had in Johnson. I understand they needed to see Smith in game action, but they should have given a lot of playing time to Webb, especially in the first couple of preseason games.

Not draft their next QB might be the first remote throwing decision for me they would make. I might even just throw the whole damn TV. Now taking Barkley and trading back in to the 1st for Mason Rudolph and I can live with that. But barring a horrible combine, I want Darnold. Very very badly.
Following whoop ass (VJ Day in Saipan)....

Where were you? I would say most were ok with it, but a lot of fans complained about the cost. A lot of fans thought Collins was fine, and wanted Gallery or Taylor.

Really? You don't remember one?

And some of them have been in a 15 year hissy bitching over every little thing Eli has done because it wasn’t who they wanted. Unfortunately will probably do the same to whoever we get if it’s not who they wanted
