The take is by CBS Draft Scout's Chris Trapasso. Don't know anything about Trapasso, but agree with much of what he wrote concerning Smith. Trapasso rates him #76 in the draft overall, and he didn't even get a Combine invite!
I think he overrates Smiths' long speed, but the rest is real. And he's dead on that Smith's run in the last video clip is one of the best I've ever seen in college football.
He'd make a really nice change of pace back. And since he can actually block, he can play on 3rd down's. Wouldn't look bad in blue at all if the price is right as a 6th round to UDFA pick.

If you want to be taken seriously as an analyst, don't start off using PFF metrics to prove your point. Use your own metrics. This guy probably has none.

or the CBS Draft guy who wrote the article, but he has Smith going somewhere between rounds 2 - 4. If that's an accurate evaluation, why would he be available in the 6th or as an UDFA?
Mainly because it points out the type of acumen a lot of posters who start threads about draft guys have.
Hey, here's a player we could draft!!! Ito sound like a cool name. Like a dancing judge!!
SQUIRREL!!!
It seems other posters just have a need to be a clown and seize upon any opportunity to exorcise their inner issues without even understanding the point of the post or its basis.
I guess it's pointless to attempt to begin a discussion of a player's ability here based upon their actual play.
That's not at all the same as parrotting hype on projected early picks such as so many do.
For those who want to put in the time one can always look up stats and see if those match projected draft spots....or not...
For example college season INTs leaders.. See if there are any LBs on it? and are they draft eligible?
Fumbles caused and recovered leaders. Are there any DTs or DEs on that list? Those are called playmakers, people.
Obvious to the point of stupidity. But who does this?
Of course that's just my opinion though.

without having ever studied their play. And instead simply repeat what they read someone else write
Hey, I don't know jackshit about this guy named Darnold, but he'd look good in blue if we could get him in the 4th round or later!!
Of course that's just my opinion though.
All true, except for his vision. which is exceptional. He will most likely be a change of pace RB if he gets a shot in the NFL, which is why I wrote that any value in taking him is from the 6th round on. MOST prospects taken from that point on don't stick on an NFL roster anyway. Taken at that point it's high reward, low risk since the only real risk is having him occupy a slot on the camp roster. If he can do in the NFL what he did in school, you've got a valuable spot contributor.
I've seen him sometimes get blown up by blitzing LB's, but he can handle DB's. And he's a lot more willing and capable as a blocker than many larger RB's. He does damn well for a RB his size.

It's amazing how many people have opinions of a RB . . . .

Is it?
Not really. - ( New Window )
Right now, two of my favorite RBs (in terms of the value they represent at their prospective draft slots) are Nick Chubb and Ito Smith, but obviously for different reasons. And while I'm certainly not recommending the Giants spend two picks on the RB position, Chubb and Smith could give the Giants the same kind of one-two punch that Jacobs and Bradshaw gave them.
p.s.--I've soured some on Perkins, but I have high hopes for Gallman and would also love to have Darkwa back at a reasonable price.
