2. New York Giants Sam Darnold, QB, USC. The Giants will receive a copious amount of phone calls here with Darnold and Rosen on the board, and while general manager Dave Gettleman will listen to every offer, he'll take his quarterback of the future, the signal caller no one really has the Giants picking. It's not crazy to believe Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur ultimately see more upside with Darnold. |
They're all click bait at this point. FA signing period hasn't started yet. Combine hasn't happened yet. Cuts still have to happen.
Agreed.

True, and to stand out you need to do goofy stuff like Mayfield going #1. It's not as bad as the guy who had a trade of every pick in the first round, though.
If the latter I don t get it. You don t get the number 2 pick in the draft unless you are a very bad team with many holes and in need of a rebuild.
There is no more important place to begin a rebuild than at quarterback.
Unless you are positive Davis Webb is the next franchise guy, you go quarterback with that pick, especially when it is a quarterback year
I don t buy into all the concerns being shared from those who want to build around Eli or place their trust in Webb.
These prospects have big arms, are athletic, and seem to be smart enough
to learn the pro game
Why is it silly? Should every mock draft be the same?
I'm not sure who goes where, but I could definitely see Darnold and Rosen taking their "rivalry" from the City of Angels to the Big Apple. Here's hoping Rosen is the one in blue, but I like Darnold too.
p.s.--I like Mayfield too but he and NYC would not be a good fit.

It's silly that Barkley is going to last to #9 and be drafted behind Josh Jackson and Calvin Ridley. You can say the Browns might fall in love with Mayfield at #1, but Barkley that low is nuts.
The Giants have the second pick. If there's one they love, they're just going to have to cross their fingers and hope that the Browns see it differently (beauty, after all, is in the eye of the beholder). If there's also one that the Giants would be happy with, then they should consider themselves still lucky if he is the one they wind up with. Short of that, they should trade down with a team who sees it differently.
So here's hoping that Dorsey keeps the party polite
And doesn't let Mayfield out of his sight.
A lady wouldn't wander all over the room and blow on some other guy's dice - ( New Window )
1. If some team offers Gettleman enough he'll come down unless he's absolutely convinced the QB he wants is worth it. I'm not sure any of them are.
2. I don't necessarily want the Giants to take Barkley, nor I do I believe he has to be a top 5 pick, but I'll bet money someone's in love with him and he doesn't fall that far.
It seems like they got away from drafting solid pass rushers on the DL? It also seems like the would draft 1 very high 1st or 2nd round every year. Were those EA's drafts (his approach I should say) and then JR stopped with that?
Have you never heard this word before?

Well get that out of your head. The Giants can't afford and aren't going to draft a DE with the 2nd pick. We have way too much money tied up at DE. If a Khalil Mack, Clowney type player was there it's a possibility. Chubb isn't close to those guys.

I would love to see Chubb in Blue. The defense has to get back to the dominating front it once had not to long ago (Tuck, Osi, Strahan, Linval Joesph, Kiwinuka had a couple of good years on the line etc ...).

Can't argue with anything you said Rick but, I was thinking more if (for whatever reason) Gettlemen, trades down a few spots gets some more picks and then takes Chubb lower in the round? I don't think any of it will happen ... just dreamin' out loud (on the keyboard).

Rick, if the Giants drafted Chubb in 2018, in 2019 they could say bye-bye to JPP and save $9.5m - Chubb's salary.

Right. So it is silly because of 1 thing. Barkley isn’t at the spot you see him at in every other mock. Got it.

Great, they can use they can carry both for 2018 and then save $2-3MM in 2019 by doing that. What a windfall!
And they'd still need a successor to Eli at that point. Maybe they can sign one for for $2-3MM.
And that ain't that helping...

Why do you care so much what I think? And Barkley is not falling to 9, that's dumb. Unless he's snorted some coke off a hooker's ass the night before the combine, he'll be gone in the top 5 picks. This is not debatable and has zero to do with other mocks. It has everything to do with him being the best player in this draft. Dgaf what the mocks say.
