NFT: Landscapers

13ODB : 2/17/2018 11:19 am
7:30 this morning I thought I heard snow blower and I thought it might be one of the neighbors getting his snow blower ready for the snow tonight because they are calling for 4-8 inches then I'm leaving the house and see it's landscapers they are already out doing work at a house across the street mowing and weed whacking the dead brown grass. I am all for landscape work but what are these guys accomplishing by being out here already? I don't usually see them out until mid march. Winter is not over yet it's pointless work.
It could be they’re prepping the lawn for

seeding and/or fertilizing ahead of the snowstorm. If so, not a bad idea.
this is how they make their money

They will come until you tell them not to. I tell my guys to stop in Nov and not start again till March.

This, plus it’s been so warm and rainy lately, the ground unfroze (at least here on Long Island). I thought about doing it myself today but I had too much other stuff to do.
The point of every business is to make money

so I would say that is the point.
What are they

Cutting all the grass is dead and why are they out seven am on a Saturday morning? Isn’t there a law they can not start until after 9am on weekends but he’s right it is pointless for them to be out I usually see them out in the second week of March where I live in Long Island

or de-thatching? Maybe putting down some lime?

Maybe pulling some hedges?

mowing lawns right now in the Northeast is about as useful as rewinding a DVD.

The bigger issue...
Chris in Philly : 2/17/2018 12:46 pm : link
is that they shouldn’t be using big lawn machines at 7:30am.
Some posters here missed the point.

7:30 in the am? My neighbors would be hearing about it.
likely there are local statues
xman : 2/17/2018 1:54 pm : link
that prohibit lawnmowers before 8 or 9 am on weekends

You have to look it up for your specific community. It will vary. Down here in FL (St. Johns County), 7:30 am is the earliest Mon. - Sat. On Sunday, the earliest is 9 am.

Why they might be doing work in the NE this early in the year? They might be aerating the soil, spreading lime, reseeding the lawn, etc.
