I'd think a trade must be imminent? Even though you'd figure they've lost any leverage to do so...he must've been DFA'd to open up a 40 man spot for Cron.
Not an ace, but I’ll take it as a Twins fan. Building a decent rotation.
Twins opened up the wallets a bit, built a nice team this offseason. They play Billyball tough, now have some juice to run longer toward October.
Meanwhile, TB imitating owner from the movie Major League..except they have no Wild Thing. Maybe Manfred wants a team they in London too;-)
Why? Dickerson is an absolute butcher in the OF, he needs to be in the AL DHing. That’s a strange player for the Braves to be interested in, IMO. Just an odd fit
Hosmer contract might be the new standard for long term contracts. It’s actually a really smart contract on both parties account. It’s really a 5 year contract at about 22 mil a year with a player opt out after 5. The last 3 years Hosmer would make about 12 mil a year so he is protected against injury and the Padres aren’t stuck with an albatross if that did happen. Also with how luxury taxes are calculated it’s only the aav of the contract that counts against the limit, so those cheap last 3 years helps the padres lower their payroll against the tax (yea I’m sure they won’t hit the tax limit but other teams can use this method like the dodgers and Yankees). I wonder if teams can cheat the system using this type of deal by tacking on additional years at very low salaries that players would definitely opt out of just to spread out the luxury tax implications.

He is actually a league average defender in LF. He posted a +1 DRS last season in LF. The Braves spent most of last season with Matt Kemp in LF so Dickerson is a substantial defensive upgrade.

I forgot to add, The Braves will start Ronald Acuna in AAA to save a year of service time regardless of how well he plays in ST. Their current options in LF are Lane Adams and Preston Tucker. Both are 4th or 5th outfielders. Dickerson also hits lefty which is a big advantage in Suntrust park. Dickerson would be a cheap stop gap in LF then move to a 4th outfielder role when Acuna arrives. He is probably an upgrade over Nick Markakis anyway.
They could have had a great rotation with Archer, Snell, Odorizzi, and top pitching prospect Brent Honeywell. Honeywell. Honeywell was ready last season but the Rays surprisingly kept him down all year. He has TOR stuff. That would have been one of the best staffs in baseball to compete for a WC spot.
Salery dumps. They save around 12 mill on these I think.

I guess the talk of ridiculous long term contracts being a thing of the past has been greatly exaggerated
I wonder if the Yanks can send him a 100-page binder on why Ellsbury sucks.
Like...Eric Hosmer?
opt out after 5. only 144 mil. avgs 18 mil per year. That's a deal. Not sure there is a no trade clause

Angels also sign 1B Chris Carter to a minor league deal.
The Braves are close to a deal with RP Peter Moylan.
He's really gonna terrorize pcl pitching.
