Jason OTC: Top 100 Free Agent List

8 Nate Solder LT Patriots 30
Left tackles are like QBs when it comes to the payscale. None are available so those who are get paid near the top.

9 Andrew Norwell G Panthers 27
Will see the new high water mark for guards. Hottest free agent position the last two years and Norwell upped his stock significantly this year.

11 Justin Pugh G Giants 28
Positional need and versatility make Pugh a good bet to reach the $10 million mark despite nagging injuries.

46 Weston Richburg C Giants 27
The best available center, though season ending on IR with a concussion could scare some teams off.

56 Chris Hubbard RT Steelers 27
Made the most of opportunity last season and should have a chance to earn a low end starting contract for a right tackle.

61 Ross Cockrell CB Giants 27
Should add solid depth to a secondary. Has started the last two years more often than not, but ultimate role will probably be as an extra DB.

71 Jerick McKinnon RB Vikings 26
Good receiever and receiving skills are always sought after and paid for in free agency.

Stuart Football Perspective: Frank Reich, and Super Bowl Coordinators Becoming Head Coaches

“In 1990, the New York Giants won the Super Bowl with a dominant defense coordinated by Bill Belichick. After the season, he went on to become the Browns head coach. Belichick had an up-and-down tenure in Cleveland, winning a playoff game in his fourth season, but finished 36-44 in five seasons amid a rotating group of quarterbacks. After the Browns moved to Baltimore, Belichick was fired as head coach, and was never heard from again...”

“Bill Arnsparger was the Miami Dolphins’ defensive coordinator from 1970 to 1973.  After Miami led the NFL in points allowed and won the Super Bowl in ’72 and ’73, Arnsparger was an obvious choice for any coaching vacancy. He chose to go to New York to coach the Giants, but his tenure was a disaster.  He went 7-28 with New York, being fired midway through the 1976 season.  Arnsparger returned to the Dolphins for another successful stint as defensive coordinator, and later served as the LSU head coach for three seasons...”

Since there has been increasing chatter from OCs regarding less huddling in 2018, I created a "No Huddle Analysis" viz to study its impact. You can even eliminate 2-min drill plays. View usage, success, yds/play, QB rtg & more.
https://www.sharpfootballstats.com/no-huddle-analysis.html

Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball)
2/17/18, 8:43 AM
A few no-huddle observations:
-The most optimal time to utilize no-huddle (apart from down & gt;7 in 4Q) is in the 1st quarter. It results in an increase of 4% in passing success and a 5% increase in rushing success.

Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball)
2/17/18, 8:47 AM
Teams that used no-huddle on at least 2% of 1Q snaps and saw & gt; 10% increase in play success:
-CAR +16%
-NE +14%
-PIT +11%
-TB +11%
-NYG +10%
-MIN +10%

Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball)
2/17/18, 8:53 AM
Carolina was an interesting case study. No huddle success by quarter:
1Q: 60%
2Q: 39%
3Q: 14%
When Newton used no huddle in the 3Q, he was just 3/12, 0% success rate and 0.7 YPA.

Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball)
2/17/18, 2:37 PM
The last 2 years, efficiency of run plays, huddle v no huddle (eliminating 10+ deficits and 2 minute drills):
No huddle: 3.9 YPC, 47% success
Huddle: 4.2 YPC, 47% success

Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball)
2/17/18, 2:38 PM
The last 2 years, efficiency of pass plays, huddle v no huddle (eliminating 10+ deficits and 2 minute drills):
No huddle: 7.0 YPA, 48% success
Huddle: 6.5 YPA, 45% success
Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball)
2/17/18, 2:48 PM
Thus, there is a more noticable edge when using no-huddle for pass plays rather than for run plays.

I don't think some #Chiefs fans realize how valuable Marcus Peters is. He's never thrown out and had five interceptions. He also had a red-zone INT against Tennessee, and nearly the game-winning strip. He's the biggest weapon at his position by a mile.

Would you prefer Weston Richburg starting center for NYG in 2018 over Brett Jones? I think Richburg can move better and maybe more cerebral but that’s about it, Jones is the better blocker and anchor, more powerful than Weston and it shows up on the field big time. Not to mention he should be cheaper. I think if Weston is brought back it would have to be a good number on a one year prove it deal for it to make sense for both sides.
I don't want to give up on richburg just yet
djm : 2/18/2018 2:44 pm : link
Maybe that's crazy, also don't know as much as the Giants do obviously, but maybe richburg sticks around.
