The history of guards being drafted early is pretty bad. I am not talking about players currently playing guard. I am talking about players who were actually projected to play G and not OT.
I think Nelson is one of the top 3 positional players in this draft. My top 5 overall players being
1. Darnold
2. Barkley
3. Nelson
4. Chubb
5. Fitzpatrick
If Darnold is gone a trade back with selection of Nelson is good for me.
but along with his draft status would be his pricetag, which negates having a really good player on a rookie deal. I'd have to see what the final numbers would be but he'd get substantially more than the measly $2 million per year a guy like Zack Martin got on his rookie deal - likely 3-4x more per year. Might as sign the top rated Guard in FA and use the #2 pick on a premium position that costs significantly more.
He is good but he reminds me a lot of the two can’t miss guard prospects of 2013, Jonathan Cooper and Chance Warmack, both went top 10 and both were total busts. Now I don’t see him being a bust but... there is no way we draft this guy at number 2... zero chance... just stop already.
I think Sy'56 doesn't even have him as the #1 or #2 G in the draft.
Personally, I was high on him, but he and McGlinchey both disappointed me the last 2-3 ND games.
But if they feel he's their best value @#2(;-( ), then so be it.
which one of these guys does not belong? I'll forgive the Skins on #5 since he had a hell of a future until he died.
1 San Diego Chargers Eli Manning QB Mississippi
2 Oakland Raiders Robert Gallery T Iowa
3 Arizona Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald WR Pittsburgh
4 New York Giants Philip Rivers QB North Carolina State
5 Washington Redskins Sean Taylor FS Miami (Fla.)

Nelson isn't Gallery.

Gettleman is the GM.
Very high chance it's Nelson.
Nelson will be the best OL prospect Gettleman has ever scouted
At #2 we need an impact player. Our brass need to find that stud!
Nelson is literally the #1 "impact player" in the draft
Larry Allen reincarnated
Impact huh?
Power running game up the middle, including short yardage
Clean pocket up the middle
Giants are 32nd in Rushing since 2011.
The best run-blocker scouts have ever seen, doesn't have a profound impact?
great now all we need is a feature back and quarterback! If you think guard is an impact position then you clearly don't know what the hell you are talking about. Once again proving that you are the firstballotEli troll by referring to guard as an impact position.
Offseason awesomeness.
Offseason awesomeness.

He isn't being a jerk. This is the John Jerry troll with his 20th handle the last being FirstballotEli.
Good job, Jay. Outed him the first time he posted something stupid.
I think the Skins drafted Brandon Scherff at #5 thinking he'd be an OT. He's pretty good at G. Wasted pick AT #5 though.

IIRC they drafted him to keep him at G. They already had Trent Williams entrenched at LT and I believe they liked their RT as well.

Sometimes, it is necessary....
1. He would start
2. He would fill a huge need

Those guys are not even close to Nelson.
Not even close.

Neither of those guys were compared to Larry Allen.
Are you dense?
Nelson will be a 12x All-Pro.
He has the talent to be the #1 Guard in all of football.
Maybe of all time.

False.
Skins drafted Scherff with every intention of playing him at G.
Scot McGloughan calls Scherff his 1 or 2 best draft pick ever

Gettleman is obsessed with OL play

taking him with the 2nd overall pick is a huge mistake especially when you can get an outstanding guard like Wynn, Smith, or Hernandez in round 2.

Says the draft grades.
Draft Grade:
Nelson = 7.4
Wynn = 6.11
Hernandez = 6.11

Sy knows more about Offensive Line play than Geoff Schwartz, a former OL who is basically an OL expert?

Where do you come up with this shit?

Flem care to share your credentials as you clearly know more than the draft experts including Sy.

You don't understand value.
Using the 2nd overall pick on:
Sam Bradford (Josh Rosen)
Jake Locker (Josh Allen)
Over
Larry Allen (Q Nelson)
...would be the real mistake.

Interesting as neither are Darnold or Rosen. Locker was the 6th overall pick. Bradford was done in by his injuries.
