Every year for the last four years. My family loves it and none of us are golfers or tennis players. Lots of stuff for kids to do, which is nice because it gives adults alone time. Nice pools and water slides. Beaches are great as well. Not a lot of people. It’s resort so there are several restaraunts but they are quite pricey. We do a mix of going out and cooking our own meals. There are a couple of more reasonably priced restaraunts at the Bohicket marina over on Seabrook island which is about 5 minutes from Kiawah. We also go into Charleston a couple of times. We are heading back in July.
Is a fantastic restaraunt. The Ryder Cup Bar is worth going to for the cocktails and just to see the golf course along the beach. The loggerhead grill is also good at nights when they have dive in movies. They put up a big movie screen and you can watch movies in the pool. If you are like me and enjoy barbecue. I’d recommend the Oyster roast they have on Monday nights. Good food.
Off of VRBO.com. It’s usually a little cheaper than going directly through the resort but you have to make sure the house has resort privileges because some do not.
As Reb said, make sure what you rent has resort privileges so you can enjoy all the new pools/water slide areas.
Places to eat:
Some of these were mentioned already, but:
Ryder Cup bar: amazing views, good cocktails and really good food as well. Pricey, but def worth a visit.
Loggerhead Grill at Sanctuary:
Restaurant at the pool of the Sanctuary Resort. Fun atmosphere, decent food, ice cream place afterwards inside Sanctuary.
Night Heron Park Grill:
Located next to the pool and activity center/wildlife refuge. Good for a beer and a sandwich.
Jasmine Porch at Sanctuary:
Good family restaurant, nice atmosphere, good food. Seafood, steaks, Resort atmosphere.
Bar in the lobby of the Sanctuary:
Grab a drink, sit outside and get a great view of the Resort, ocean and kids can play on large grass area.
Tomasso Italian:
Turtle Point golf course, go early, for a fun time, get a table in the bar rather than the main dining room. Good food, but stay away from the pizza, not worth it.
Cherry BBQ: one of the other golf courses. Sit outside in back and get great views of course and multiple alligators walking around the ponds.
Stay away from the restaurant in the West End village except for breakfast. Can’t remember name.
Right outside Kiawah at the Freshfields Market are a couple good restaurants.

Hege’s And La Tela are our favs. La Tela pizza is very good, but very $$$$.
Also in the center of the village are great concerts for the fam.
Bohicket Marina is on the other side of Freshfields. A couple decent restaurants: https://bohicket.com/bohicket-market/
Red’s Ice House- super kid friendly with games on the backside lawn.
Also, about 15 min off the island is The Fat Hen, which we love.
We go to Charleston to go to the Aquarium and eat as well.
Lastly, so much to do 9n the island, but my fav since I was 12 is just renting bikes and exploring the hundreds of miles of trails and riding on the beach. Don’t miss that. Greatest place on earth for a family vacation in my mind. Enjoy!

How prevalent are the gators there? Any risk at the resort?
How prevalent are the gators there? Any risk at the resort?
I’ve never seen any gators or snakes but there are warning signs around. Roaches are another story. There are some paths at night I might avoid.
