I get that Foles was the Super Bowl MVP...

Milton : 2/19/2018 11:33 pm
But he isn't some 24-year old who came out of nowhere to finally show the world what he was capable of when given a chance (a la Kurt Warner twenty years ago). He's a 29-year journeyman with 29 career starts.

Quote:
Bill Polian said on ESPN’s NFL Live that, if he were the Eagles’ GM, he wouldn’t listen to any offers for Nick Foles unless they started with “two 1’s and two 2’s.”

If I'm the Eagles, I'm wondering if it makes sense to pay a journeyman $7M to be Wentz's backup simply for sentimental reasons. The fact that they may be able to trade him for a day two pick (let alone a day one pick and more) should be considered a "get out of jail free" card. Meanwhile Foles is being asked by reporters if he would be willing to play this year for only $7M. Insanity!

Am I wrong?

Eagles don't win the SB

Foles played a perfect game in the SB. Led response drives to shift the momentum every time.

1. Warner was 29 when the Rams won their title.

2. Bill Polian is an idiot.

The reference to Warner was regarding the fact that he came out of nowhere without any previous NFL starts to use for evaluation purposes.
If I'm the Eagles GM
mrvax : 2/20/2018 12:50 am : link
Foles is going nowhere until Wentz is 100%. Then I try to get a 1st rounder for him. If that doesn't work out, I'd settle for a 2nd rounder. Maybe trade him for a good veteran player.

Bear in mind that the light bulb for Foles came on when the Eagles ran a RPO offense for him specifically. He played that SB like a poised and confident QB.
Foles isn’t going

Anywhere until Wentz is healthy. The Eagles can also get out of his contract very easily after next year.

ZogZerg : 2/20/2018 6:51 am : link
Foles as a FA for nothing. IF one of those same teams throws anywhere near those picks at the Eagles than they are complete dopes who will never win anything.

Agreed. $7 million for a QB when your franchise QB is returning from a torn ACL he suffered late in the year, is a steal. Eagles do however have cap issues. D. Coordinators are working round the clock right now to figure out how to stop the RPO just like they did the Wildcat

Wentz is the better QB, so yeah, they still win the Super Bowl.
Foles caught lighting in a bottle
larryflower37 : 2/20/2018 7:49 am : link
You have to be crazy to think he turned the corner and is a pro bowl QB.
You trade him as soon as possible for what you can get because his value will never be higher.
I'd trade Foles in a heartbeat.
Brown Recluse : 2/20/2018 7:54 am : link
Especially if someone is willing to give up a 1st or 2nd round pick. That's a potential starter some place else on your team. It makes no sense, long term, to keep that on your bench in the form of a backup QB.

Its easy to be smart with Peyton Manning and making changes to rules to help him. Maybe not idiot, but Reese has 2 titles to his 1. Who's smarter?

Reese's 2 titles don't mean he's smarter than anyone. Have you seen the way his rosters have looked the past few years? I don't know if he's smarter than Bill Polian or not, but maybe they're both idiots.
Bill Polian..
FatMan in Charlotte : 2/20/2018 8:33 am : link
wasn't just the Colts GM - he was also a key architect for the Bills SB teams and the early Panthers team, who had immediate success.

He's getting old, but he's far from an idiot.
Two 1's and two 2's.....
BillKo : 2/20/2018 9:11 am : link
...WTF?

What GM would give up that, guaranteeing that Foles comes in and is handed the starting QB job?

Huge mistake.

Look, the guy can play in the league....but to me over time his warts will show and he'll be what he truly is: a good backup.

BillKo : 2/20/2018 9:14 am : link
..but what is Foles contract status?

I assume he's under contract, correct? Why would the Eagles renegotiate?

If we have learned anything about the Eagles over the past 15 years, is they don't succumb to pressure of signing/resigning/extending players.

Pesonally, I'd hold onto Foles for one more season (assuming that's his contract) and ensure Wentz is 100% healthy.......cap wise you're not in position to pay two QBs (not that Foles even deserves a big pay day).
While not sure of Wentz recovery
Jimmy Googs : 2/20/2018 9:18 am : link
I would be hard pressed not to sell Foles to the first decent offer they get.

Two ways to make money in this world...Buy Low and Sell High or Buy High and Sell Higher.
and where did that $7million figure...
BillKo : 2/20/2018 9:20 am : link
...come from?

Is that what he's actually getting paid for 2018?

If so, no wonder his wife kicked his butt and said "you're carrying a clipboard"..............

From OTC...
Quote:
Nick Foles signed a two year, $11 million contract with the Eagles on March 16, 2017. Foles received $7 million in guarantees, including a $3 million signing bonus. For salary cap purposes the Eagles added three voidable contract years to prorate the money. The 2019, 2020, and 2021 years will automatically void if an extension is not reached. Another $6 million in incentives are available.
Of the $11M, he received $4M last year and has the remaining $7M due this year (with $3M guaranteed).
Nobody is giving that up for Foles.
Mike from Ohio : 2/20/2018 9:56 am : link
He is dirt cheap and can win in that system, and he plays for peanuts. If you are the Eagles you hold onto him as long as you can.

They probably don't win the SB with Wentz. Foles was perfect, timely and clutch. Wentz is the better QB but he could have folded under the pressure. There was a lot more film on the offense Wentz was running for the Pats to scheme against. The playbook was largely new for Foles. Considering how close the game was and how perfectly Foles played it is very reasonable to suggest they may not have won with Wentz.
Foles contract
AdamBrag : 2/20/2018 10:18 am : link
Makes him a FA at the end of next season if he's on the Eagles, but the contract extends through the 2021 season if he's on any other team. They'd be crazy not to trade him and if the return is a single 1st round pick, that'd be a great haul.

I tend to agree...what was Wentz going to do, put up 50+ points?? LOL.......

Things sometimes just work out. I still suggest that the 1990 Giants don't win it all with Phil Simms.
You guys are way off on Foles. Way off
twostepgiants : 2/20/2018 1:35 pm : link
This guy got 7 mil to be a backup because he already had value.

he’s already put up 27 TD 2 INT in a season. Now he’s proven he can win and put up huge numbers vs a top D in Minny, Belichick. Handle the pressure of playoffs, Super Bowls.

Foles is 29, still a lot of football left.

He has a cost effective contract
.
Huge value.
I don't think I've seen a super bowl winning QB
GiantTuff1 : 2/20/2018 2:11 pm : link
as dismissed as Foles since Eli won his first, Brad Johnson and Dilfer.

The guy has proven on the biggest stage possible that he can game and win the big one. Most QB's only dream of having that level of moxie and accomplishing the feat. Who's to say Wentz ever wins one? We don't know that he can. We know that Foles can.

I think Foles has big value, and unless blown away by an offer the Eagles would be idiots to part ways considering Wentz's injury status.

It's either that guy or the John Jerry guy. Maybe they're the same person. Who knows.

In any event, he's a fucking stain.
