I have tried out the following:
Playstation Vue, Hulu w/ Live TV and Youtube TV. I never tried DirecTV because they were not offering DVR. Though i think they are adding it.
Youtube TV is by far the best I have tried so far. The great part is they all offer free trials and you can cancel whenever, so I would recommend just trying them all out.
Youtube TV offers unlimited cloud DVR for 9 months (the shows are stored for up to 9 months). Plus the app on my Xbox One is great and easy to use... Hulu had a pretty poor design and Vue required me to use chromecast (I don't have a playstation.)
The link below is a handing guide of what each service offers in terms of channels and DVR, what devices they work on, number of streams you can use at once.. etc. comparison of streaming tv servies - ( New Window )
and FIOS tv subscriber in my other place, I find this very appealing. The best part is that for $70 month, I could use this service at both homes and get about 150 channels. It would end up saving me about $250 per month.
Seriously thinking about doing it. My wife is resistant, but I will work on her...
The only way (to my knowledge) to get a full DirectTV package of your choice without a dish is if you live in a high rise apartment complex and dishes are forbidden to be mounted anywhere near your unit. In most cases these complexes have been pre-wired to share a single dish system.
is what local stations would be available, if any, and how they are determined.
This varies by market i think, because all of the locals are independent they all need their own deals. I am considered to be in the Philly market for YouTube TV and I get all of the major networks and It also included CSN the local comcast sports channel.

DIRECTV NOW offers two streams. (DIRECTV NOW has announced they will be increasing that to 3 streams.)
Sling TV will allow you to stream one or three streams at once depending on what package you sign up for. You can also use your Sling TV login for some apps such as WatchESPN.
PlayStation Vue will work on five devices at once but some channels will not work outside of your home network. You can use your PlayStation Vue login on different apps such as WatchESPN.
YouTube TV allows for 3 streams at once both inside and outside of your home.
fuboTV allows 2 streams at the same time.
Hulu live TV beta starts with 2 streams but you can add more for $14.99 a month.
Getting a good ISP is crucial if you're going to cut the cord and go with one of these streaming TV options.
Unfortunately, most ISPs are charging an arm and a leg for just Internet only options (No TV or phone bundled in). They used to be around $30-50 per month but in recent years have gone up to $60-80 range and $100+ for higher end internet speeds.
As more and more people cut the cord, those prices will only go up and it'll almost become more cost effective to get a bundled package for some people.
I just cut the cord. I choose PS VUE, b/c they offered all the locals and when I was using the free trial it worked a lot better than Sling and DTV Now (I didn't try Hulu or Youtube). So far so good.
Somewhat related side note - a couple weeks ago I asked on here about the google mesh system. I have it up and running and its unreal how good it is. I get 230+ Mbps everywhere in the house.
I opted for the $60 package with HBO for $5 more. My local cable (HTC in Longs SC) sucks. I'm paying about $75 a month with no NHL network or Bloomberg Business, two channels I like.
I bought one of those 50 mile antennas but a couple of the locals were pretty spotty. I may have to keep Basic Cable for about $25 a month. 100 mbs internet for $70. So my total will be $170 a month.
I have Rokus on all my TVs. Directv NOW lets you use their credentials to log into several apps. Directv NOW does not have complete access to all archived material from every stream but you can fire up the individual app on Roku using Directv NOW credentials to access the app. I use it to access HBO GO which gives me access to all of HBO's library. Directv NOW only gives me HBO East, Latina and Family and limited librbary.
So all in all not a bad deal. BTW, NFL has an app similar to MLB and NBA and NHL where you can sign up for the season and watch out of market games. Not sure of the cost. I currently do MLB and NHL which are a little over $100 a season.
As a subscriber that has tried DirecTV NOW, Sling TV, and Hulu Live Â
I like Sling TV the best. Has the most options, has the best consistent quality, and has great on demand, and live TV controls. The only downside to my Sling TV subscription is I don't get CBS, FoxNews (hold the judgement), or any ESPN. I use my friends login to watch ESPN through their app on my FireStick and get CBS if needed through antenna.
I liked DirecTV now. I got in on a deal where I received a free 4k Apple TV for prepaying 4months. Not sure if the deal is still active. I found that the video feed skipped and lagged often enough to look elsewhere. DirecTV Now has the better channel lineup in my oppinion.
I did not like Hulu TV at all. Super complicated interface. spotty quality.
My husband and I cut the cord last month, got an antenna and subscribed to DirecTV Now (were were already Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime subscribers). We really like it and do not miss cable at all. We went for the least expensive set of channels ($35/mo) and are very happy with it. When we first got it, they did not offer CBS but have since added it. That didn't matter to us as we receive all of the local channels with our antenna (I live in Alexandria, VA, not far from DC). The only drawback is not being able to watch local sports as MASN is not available streaming but I will subscribe to MLB's app with a VPN later this spring to solve my problem.
I really want to check out the series Mr. Mercedes, Â
My cable bill is a lot. All the people I know cut the cord not because they could not afford it but did so because they felt their provider became too greedy. My wife actually sees her Russian language tv shows and videos on youtube.
SlingTV
YoutubeTV
PS VUE
etc

No, according to the link.

I switched to it because it's the best service that also has MSG in my CT shoreline area. (I'm a dipshit who likes to watch the Knicks).
It has not special deal for the NFL package.
I get all the main locals but ABC.

Its not by device, its by # of active streams.

I am actually in on the Beta testing for the Directv Now cloud! So far it's been good, only a couple of minor bugs which they fixed right away.
