NFT: Spotify looking to release their own "smart speaker"?

DanMetroMan : 2/20/2018 3:37 pm
I'd be all about this if the audio quality is strong.

"The fight for music streaming supremacy is mostly between Spotify and Pandora, the two largest services available in the United States. However, Apple and Google have a huge advantage over the two that might enable them to steal their thunder: hardware. With Google’s line of Home products and Apple’s new HomePod, the ease of getting customers to sign up for the platform offered by their hardware manufacturer could push Google and Apple to the top.

Spotify knows this, which is why it’s not too surprising to hear that the company might be working on releasing its own speaker system. The source for this rumor comes from Spotify itself, technically: this job posting on its website is a clear call for an Operations Manager to oversee the development and manufacture of some sort of hardware unit. And what else would Spotify make besides a speaker system?"

Google Home Mini...

works well with Spotify too. It's kind of funny though - when my wife asks for a song on the Mini she gets a response that she needs to be a subscriber to Google Play Music to hear that song, then gets a curated playlist of similar music to listen to.

When my daughter asks it to play that same song it announces that it is playing it on Spotify no questions asked.

Anyway - can't see the reason behind needing to purchase spotify hardware, and if they are barely in the hiring of a project manager phase of this thing they are going to be so late to market it will be hard for them to penetrate it.

it's recognizing your daughters voice and probably tied to her personal Spotify. This can be adjusted from settings I N your Google home app on your device
Yeah, my wife was baffled at first...

But my daughter helped her figure it out yesterday.

Just thought it was interesting that the home mini goes by voice recognition to identify user account privileges, and potentially the Spotify device could have an advantage of it were to be unlocked for any user.
