Surprise Cuts

BigBlueDownTheShore : 2/20/2018 4:17 pm
Who do you think will be cut, but we didn't see it coming. Usually when there is a change at Head Coach, and more so GM, there are massive cuts. Tom Coughlin cleaned house defensively, we had a completely new LB corps the next year. Who you got as your surprise cut.

There should be no surprise cuts .
Looking down the list of names coming off the books

it's actually difficult to find a "surprise" in there. You could say something like Aldrick Rosas, but he would not be cut until camp is through. No advantage to cutting him now.

Marshall, DRC discussed at length, but neither would be a "surprise."

Just for kicks, i'll say Jerell Adams. Mid-round project from the previous regime who could be victim to a cut because of latest waiver acquisition in Kyle Carter.

But I still think there's no reason for this to happen.
I know I am in the minority but I would love to see Marshall

play out this year. Judging anybody in McAdoo's offense is not smart imo. At least not in the passing game. Marshall's game is not predicated on getting open in 1 second. Now, if it comes down to keeping Marshall or fixing the OL then the OL has to come first. However, I think having Marshall on this team can still be a huge positive.

adjust his compensation. Marshall is a goner even at vet min you can find better.

DRC is cheap for the production we get from him. We're rebuilding but he's a great veteran stop gap right now.
He is on record saying he'd moved to FS
MotownGIANTS : 2/20/2018 4:44 pm : link
he knows he has to play ball ...
No surprises
Rjanyg : 2/20/2018 5:18 pm : link
I see Marshall, Harris, Jerry as cuts and DRC could be taking a paycut or restructure but may end up being cut. I can see Apple being traded as well.

The only Giants UFA I would re-sign are Cockrell and Kennard plus tender Brett Jones.

I see Gettlemen adding 2 FA OL, 1 LB, 1 WR and maybe 1 RB: Norwell, Fleming, Bradham, Moncrief, McKinnon. Solid FA haul.
Potential surprise cuts
Red Dog : 2/20/2018 5:31 pm : link
As noted previously, anyone connected with the Reese / Ross era, especially as a draftee or vet FA acquisition, is fair game to be cut. That said, here's a few potential surprise cuts. Most of these would not be made until after the draft.

P Brad Wing. He's had two not-so-hot seasons in a row, has contributed directly to some difficult losses with poor punts in big situations, and his job is clearly on the line now.

QB Davis Webb. If they do draft a QB this year - in any round - that guy will immediately become the developmental QB of the future, and Webb will become excess baggage because they will likely sign an inexpensive veteran journeyman to back up Eli for a year or two while they develop the new guy.

RB Paul Perkins. He didn't play much last season. If they draft a RB before the last couple of rounds, which I think they will, AND re-sign Darkwa to go with Gallman, they could decide that Perkins is excess because he doesn't contribute much on special teams. If they don't re-sign Darkwa, he's most likely safe at least through the pre-season, but he needs a good summer to earn a spot on next year's team.

TE Jerell Adams, as noted above. He's had a few more drops than you'd like to see, and they have already brought in two more young TEs.

Could be traded - just maybe - but he's not getting outright cut.

JPP.
Vernon
Jenkins
Manning
Snacks
And anyone on a rookie deal except Apple.

No one else would surprise me
Marshall wouldn't be a surprise considering his age & $

amount.

A surprise would be someone like Jenkins, Vernon, or JPP. And I don't see any of them going anywhere.

I could see us trying to trade Apple.

You need at least 3 serviceable corners in this league, I think you have to keep DRC aro8nd with Apple being a question mark.

Hopefully they can bring Cockrell back as well.
JPP cut?
Doomster : 2/20/2018 9:37 pm : link
He would have to be cut before 3/18.....7.25M is guaranteed this year and the other 4M is guaranteed on 3/18.....so he won't be cut after that date......

We are basically stuck with him this season.....next year, he will be gone....

My surprise cut? Eli.....I think he can still play, just not behind a Giant OL, and new system....I don't think it will happen....but it's just delaying the inevitable.....the 10M we could save this year and next, could be used in rebuilding this OL....

But until the first moves are made by the new GM/HC, we have no idea what direction this team is headed....

. If the Giants cut JPP then it means the Giants are forefitting the 2018 season. He’d be a $22.5 Million cap hit as opposed to $17 Million. Will not happen
