I'm interested to see how the OL come off the board

Particularly tackles. Last year a couple of good ones lasted until 34
No way
Sy'56 : 2/20/2018 8:15 pm : link
I mean I respect opinions are opinions....

But the balance and body control in pass protection was a strength for Thomas in college. His best attribute. That is a glaring weakness of McGlinchey's.

What OT do you think could be available with pick 34? What do you think of Tyrell Crosby?

I expect Connor Williams to be the first OT off the board.

Not a Crosby fan.

Here are a few OTs I like outside of round 1, but I wouldn't label them as guys that are stepping in right away and solving the issue.

Geron Christian - Louisville
Joseph Noteboom - TCU
Jamaica Jones - Ohio State
Kolton Miller - UCLA

Not sure any of those guys meet the grade for #34 overall though. I don't thinkNYG is finding their next OT in this class.

With Wheeler & Bisnowaty already here, we are set for years. (One can dream, right?)
Thats a lofty comparison

I'm very high on Mike McGlinchey but, Joe Thomas, Suh, and Kahlil Mack are the only prospect I ever called perfect. I was coaching at that time and I remember speaking with a few people back then (one was a regional for the Browns) and they had him with zero flaws. He had 32 inch arms and still no one cared. I don't know if I've ever seen a more perfect OT coming out.

Like I said I really like McGlinchey but, Joe Thomas was another animal, one we may never see again.

That's some dream, of the fantasy type.
I think that McGlinchey is the best LT prospect in this draft,
yatqb : 2/20/2018 9:32 pm : link
at least the most NFL-ready LT prospect.

Although Williams showed me a lot at times, I'm not sure that he's ready to play LT in the pros.

Have you ever seen West Georgia LT Desmond Harrison?
Maybe in run blocking,
old man : 2/20/2018 10:17 pm : link
but as I mentioned yesterday, in those last 3 ND games last season, both he and QN disappointed me when competition was better/ hungrier maybe.
But all players, 1st rounders especially, you do your best evaluation, pick your player, coach them up, and hope they perform well.
For every Cam Robinson there's a Greg Robinson.
Somebody will be happy with McG,or Brown, or Williams, or....,or all or none of the above.
Any left-handed QBs worth looking at so we can get a RT with good feet to protect the QBs blindside? ;-)
Who the hell
David B. : 2/20/2018 10:34 pm : link
is Kirwin?
Agree
WillVAB : 2/20/2018 10:49 pm : link
Maybe not Joe Thomas but he will be a very good pro. This guy was a consensus top 10 pick in season and dropped in the eyes of draftniks for no legitimate reason.
McGlinchey
ryanmkeane : 2/20/2018 10:52 pm : link
classic case of just a good football player who gets nitpicked to all hell come draft time, slips, and ultimately becomes a pro bowl, don't have to worry about him type of guy.
It's so insanely unfair to compare any prospect to Joe Thomas
Ten Ton Hammer : 2/20/2018 11:53 pm : link
There are like 5 guys in history with his ability level. Joe Thomas is every bit the equal of Ogden, Orlando Pace, or Tony Munoz.

Cameron Fleming - RT for Patriots
edavisiii : 2/21/2018 8:56 am : link
Sy and company...I live in RI, right smack in the heart of Pats land. Cameron Fleming seemed to fill in well for the Pats. I believe he is a FA. Might be a lower cost solution to shore up our weakest spot on the OL. Any opinions??? We are all talking up Norwell and rightfully so. But, I am sure the Giants are looking at more cap friendly solutions.
^^^^
Dnew15 : 2/21/2018 9:05 am : link
I think they are going to need to sign more than just one OL this offseason - 2 FA and a second rd pick is a good place to re-start the process of a OL
Dnew15 Agree!
edavisiii : 2/21/2018 9:10 am : link
I see the Pats with a 1st Round LT and the rest of the line made up of young guys that were 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th round picks. I'd hate to see them overspend on some mediocre talent and lose Landon Collins or OBJ because they don't have cap room.

Tough call. He will be better than anything NYG has put at RT past couple years, yes. But the price may be too high considering that amount of teams looking for OT help. And if you hit OK in the draft, you should be able to find an equivalent. But more risk
Agree Sy! Only if reasonable...on Cameron Fleming!
edavisiii : 2/21/2018 2:17 pm : link
As I said Pats molded a line with mid-rounders; hopefully DG, who is known for having a good eye with lineman, can work his magic in rounds 3 to 6. At 2 you hope for an impact player whether its Donald, Rosen or Barkley and at 34 you hope someone you had pegged as a 1st rounder slips.
At that point I'd take a LB, Pass Rusher or OL. To me, if you pick an OL in the 1st round it should be a LT and the pickings are slim.
