to OC over Duce Staley, did we avoid a major potential error by not pursuing/hiring Staley for our OC?
My thinking is: if the often- rumored DS wasn't worthy of the job with the Eagles, maybe he really isn't OC material.
Or is it an apples- oranges situation?
They didn't need to promote him to AHC to stop teams from poaching him.
If you are under contract, you can be blocked from a "promotion" unless its to HC.
AHC is just a title and probably a pay bump but otherwise is meaningless

to Staley. Doing so stops other teams from poaching him. So while they didn't promote him to OC, they did think highly enough of him to protect him from the other 31 teams.

But even for HC, the NFL doesn't consider it a promotion when you are an assistant HC. Hence, he can not interview and be hired for a HC unless the Eagles grant permission.
Or the AHC is just a feel good throw of a bone to make nice nice with the Deuce.
There are 2 levels as far as the league is concerned
1. HC
2. Everybody else
They didn’t need to add AHC title for that. This is more about him not quitting at the first chance that they deny him an OC interview
