Sy'56 (or anyone): what's the word on OT Joseph Noteboom?

Milton : 2/21/2018 7:00 am
He doesn't seem to be getting much love from the draftnik community, but he has prototype size

From CBS Sports...
Quote:
Joseph Noteboom, OT, TCU
Weigh-in: 6051 / 306 / 35 1/2" arms

You won't hear Noteboom's name among the top offensive tackle prospects in this class, yet the pass-blocking proficiency he showcased at a long tenure at TCU bodes well for his future in the pass-happy NFL. Per Pro Football Focus, Noteboom surrendered nine quarterback pressures (two sacks, one hit, six hurries) on 820 snaps at left tackle this past season. His pass-blocking grade was the 16th-best out of 232 tackles who played at least 50 percent of their respective team's snaps. All the way back in 2015, his PFF pass-block grade -- while playing right tackle -- was the fifth-best among 237 qualifiers. He has NFL size and outstanding athletic talents to deal with every type of pass-rusher.

Here's what Paul Emery had to say about him...
Quote:
Now, he’s not the biggest – but that’s demanded of him by the offensive scheme – and he can add weight, but no one is going to add LT feet overnight. Early in the game, Noteboom struggled with Stanford’s power – he got pushed around a bit. I was impressed with how he rebounded and after adjusting, he played really well. We’ll see what happens stock wise in the coming weeks, but hopefully he’ll get some love!
I like him

Round 3 guy probably

Really good body control, balance, footwork. At that length, it is a good thing. Left tackle potential.

Issue is a lack of core strength, has a hard time pushing guys back in the trenches, holding ground against a good bull rush. Gets altered too easily by a stiff punch. He isn't aggressive enough. Needs to go get guys rather than be overly reliant on athletic ability.

In time, I see a potential starter. But it will be after a lot of work and mentality progression.

If the issue is physical weakness, then I wouldn't want him. Reese has gone that route with disastrous results (Beatty, Richburg, Pugh, Jerry). And after hearing Gettleman's comments about needing "hogmollies" I'd tend to think that this is not his kind of guy.
If I had to compare him to Chad Wheeler

I'm not sure who I would take right now. Noteboom maybe has more upside, but Wheeler did enough in year 1 to prove he is in the long term discussion

Interesting Sy. In that case, why spend a 3rd round pick on him if he isn't markedly better than Wheeler who was UFDA?
Sounds like Guy Whimper

When he was drafted
I am so bad at projecting who is going to be a good NFL player
Dnew15 : 2/21/2018 1:16 pm : link
I thought for sure Guy Whimper was going to be a solid NFL starter - I was wrong.
The Giants should hire me to be in their scouting department and do the opposite of whatever I say - the team would be loaded with talent.
