want to make the play exciting let the players juice up again I still think that baseball in the late 90s was the most exciting to watch on both sides hitting and pitching.
MLB more than any other game is driven by numbers and the ability to compare one year and one player to any other player and any other year.
If the best players are given additional 9th inning ABs they'll have more opportunities for hits, HRs, RBI, etc. That means almost any MLB batting record that is broken would potentially be tainted.
That's the game. Use your loser for 5 outs versus 3, just to get 7-8-9 up in the ninth. Granted, a gamble because that doesn't always pan out.
So, basically just fucking remove any strategy a manager might try to employ to use X pitcher in Y situation to get his team to the ninth inning in a statistically better position than they'd be if the approach completely failed.
I wish Rich Eisen's name wasn't associated with this idea. I like Rich Eisen. But that is fucking ridiculous.
Side note: Leave baseball alone, including the pace of play bullshit. It's the best sport out there of the major 4 sports.
NFL is killing itself.
NHL's absurd OT rules (3 on 3, then the shootout) and ridiculous point system where every team is within a few points of each other. The regular season has become one big glorified NBA game where nothing really matters until the last few minutes (Weeks in the NHL season).
Do I even need to outline the problems in the NBA?
Leave baseball alone. It's the best it's ever been.
some of the best skill on display in any sport in a still meaningful way, as someone who considers themselves a traditionalist, I wanted to hate it, but I cannot. It's riveting.

the shootout is abysmal though.
I guess but it’s just so far from regulation hockey, it’s the only sport that literally changes the structure of the game for overtime.
I’d rather they keep overtime 5 on 5 in a 5 minute period. No shootout. 1 point for a tie. 2 points for an OT win, 1 point for an OT loss. 3 points for a regulation win.
And a huge advantage to the home team. You get to bat your top guys in the bottom half, and can potentially walk off without allowing the away team a chance to do the same. You cannot punish the away team by not giving them that same opportunity.
Professional sport equivilent of participation trophies Â
this was one of the ideas that was floated around but it never got legs. Much ado about nothing. Leave it to the media to take some random suggestion and turn it into something it isn’t.
and it's leaking out to the public. there is no way a clearly thinking person thinks that makes sense at all.

Dumb idea.
Jesus Christ.

If you’re imagining Stanton, Judge and Sanchez leading off countless ninth innings, you’re imagining something besides baseball.
How about more runs depending on how far the ball is hit?
Down by two in the ninth? Go for the 400 yard 3-run shot!
