Especially USH: for sending over the most disjointed, ego maniacal, individualist oriented group of athletes, but particularly both hockey teams.
Passing to an open, better shot is unheard of I guess, passing is casual and often poor, and awareness is not required.
But at least the women will get a medal.
all objectivity, the truly deserved the win and the gold! Way to go girls and how about that little spitfire Rooney?! Shes something else with that wry smile behind the mask.
After all the history between these teams, after being outplayed early, they fought and fought and fought and slayed the beast. Sick move on the winning goal. Best part of the Olympics so far.

agree, they were totally outplayed for the first 30 min, maybe even you could say the first 45 min Canada owned the play, but from that point on they dominated and their goalie was phenomenal.

At some point in the 2nd period they started to play with more confidence and speed. They were stringing together crisp passes and coming out of their own zone with purpose. They had Canada on their heels throughout much of the 3rd and the OT wasnt even close. Just glad they were able to bring it home, even if it was in the so-called skills competition.
Gotta hand it to USOC

Way to have your finger on the pulse of the sport there, Ace.
the women's teams has had the same core for a while and many of them have multiple world cup wins and Olympic silver medals, and they regularly replace the older players with youth every year or two.
the Men are completely different, I do think they botched the selection/roster bulding, but has nothing to do with old man's post which seems alcohol or drug induced.
Granato explained his decision making. they didn't want too many college kids because they weren't sure how they'd respond playing against older competition on the international stage. I get it's a gamble, but I think it was a mistake where they settled.
I think the is fatal flaw of the US team was (roster composition). The best players on the US Men's team were BY FAR the three college kids: Donato, Terry and Greenway. Arcobello (whose mother was my middle school teachers) would maybe be 4th, but it was a distant fourth.
And it wasn't like they'd be facing the '80 Soviets or the 90's - 00's Canada super teams, all the teams were kind of in the same boat with journeyman or youngsters.
I would have built the team almost entirely of college kids and seen if perhaps I could coax some NHL veterans who recently retired out of retirement (like OAR did with Datsyuk), but it would not have been Gionta who was mostly ineffective.
the energy level, speed, and skill of the college kids were the only thing that helped the US go as far as they did, and to Granato's credit, they did lose only once in regulation (to the OAR team).
not only did you win the women's gold, but you knocked off our men's curling team. why don't you tear up NAFTA and shoot some beavers while you're at it?

We dont want to strip you of too much of your natl identity and pride but beavers? Well, I think theyre relatively safe, anyway.

Ha, maybe we could stuff some beavers in honor of our friendly neighbors to the North.
I do think there is still a long way to go for payback.
I still haven't gotten over Crosby's OT Game winner in Vancouver, the gold medal game "blow out" on US home ice in SLC, the Sochii women's debacle, but curling? Is this the first time the US men have even medaled?
I've been to Montreal a bunch (and other places in Canada), and very often in pubs curling is one like every TV there. Canada pretty much dominates.
I think if anything the US owed Canada for years of Olympic torture.

come on we are human beings- we'll let you keep your beer, donuts and maple syrup.
Through 30 or 40 minutes, Canada's d was always two women back and USA forwards were forced to the boards, then trying 180 spins to come free higher up along the boards, and it seemed Canada's scouting and familiarity snuffed all those efforts out.
On the other hand USA was sloppy with giveaways, their cross-ice passes were prime to be picked off, and there just didn't seem a lot of hard to the puck drive. When Poulin leveled Lamoreaux (or one of the defenders coming out) early in the 1st, USA bench was quiet, just taking it.
PPs save our asses and then Poulin (what a marksman) et al. really playing intuitive hockey finding open ice and open shots, Rooney making an amazing stick save while swiveling to the corner flat on her stomach.
Then, everything seemed to change......
oldman's post, not to beat a dead horse, but if anything USA forwards were passing too much, looking like vintage NYR, passing up clear shots for a "better" shot by a forward not open.
not only did you win the women's gold, but you knocked off our men's curling team. why don't you tear up NAFTA and shoot some beavers while you're at it?
This just in, Tim Horton's has been brought out by Dunkin Dounuts

Hey Les, "you know who" is working on NAFTA and I like beaver..
For the Third period: very early, remote doctor's date I had to make. Was in despair when I dropped off. Thought the little American defensive player was hopeless (couldn't handle the puck really or skate very well either; was outweighed and timid). The Canadians were killing them. The USA team must have played like demons in the Third to tie it up and keep the Canadians out of our net -- and produce this great win. Congrats to the team and coaches!
even though shootouts in gold medal games are a travesty, the US team played hard and well and were the physically and mentally stronger group. Congrats and enjoy the win!
Why....are we comparing this to the 1980's victory?
on the timing similarities but thanks for your post, maybe I can run stuff by you before I post in the future to get your approval.
You mean...the winter Olympics occurs at the same time every four years?! Imagine that.
Are you always this much of an asshole?
The men won gold medals 20 years apart.
The women won gold medals 20 years apart.
That's similar timing jackass.
And no one said the wins themselves were similar.
I pasted an image Miracle on Ice for the men's win, and Redemption on Ice for the women's win.
in no way was anyone saying look the men won a gold medal in hockey and the women won a gold medal in hockey they won in a similar manner.
One is deemed a miracle since a group of kids beat a juggernaut soviet team. Hence the word miracle.
One is deemed redemption since the last olympics the US had a 2 goal lead with under 4 min left to play in the gold medal game and squandered the lead in regulation and eventually lost in OT. Hence the word redemption.
If the words miracle and redemption mean the same thing to you then go fuck yourself.
Because they sure as shit don't mean the same thing to me.

Who is we? and no idea what your problem is.
I explained the similarities.
No one said the type of win was comparable like your inane post insinuated.
if you still feel after my explanation the posts were off-base then sorry, not sorry. the problem is you being a dick.

Last night's game was between two evenly placed teams. The 1980's game was amateurs against professionals.
Had the US men's team beaten the OAR for gold, that would be a much better comparison.

Rooney is MVP in my mind.

Thats up there with Marek Malik winning a 15 round shootout for the rangers vs the capitals by shooting the puck through his own legs

not 20 years, 38 years. shouldn't have stayed up to 2:30 watching I guess, LOL.

And then takes a terrible penalty with 1:35 left in OT.
Thank god everyone else bailed her out.
