@JordanRaanan
You'll want to watch today NFL Live at 1:30 p.m. on @espn. Former Giants VP of player evaluation Marc Ross will be on and talking some draft. This is a guy who spent all fall and winter scouting the QBs in this year's draft.

this will probably be as interesting...

and enlightening as all of his press conferences. I bet his agent got him this little interview to get his name back out in the mix
It could be enlightening in terms of

what he might have heard from our scouts while he was here. We're not going to get much closer to our scouts than this guy...
Regarding anything that Marc Ross says
Someguy1978 : 2/22/2018 1:59 pm : link
I think Vincent Gambini summed it up best - Everything that guy just said is bullshit. Thank you.
So, did he go on yet?
robbieballs2003 : 2/22/2018 2:01 pm : link
If so, what did he say?

Marc, what do you think of the linebackers in this draft?

What's a linebacker?
Ross saying Baker Mayfield is his QB in this draft. Said he would

take his shot with Baker and that he excelled against top competition.
I’m definitely interested in what he might have to say about the draft
mfsd : 2/22/2018 2:08 pm : link
I also don’t understand why it took Gettleman so long to fire him. Should have happened immediately, not after 2 hours
They are doing the state of the Giants next.
BLUATHRT : 2/22/2018 2:13 pm : link
I wonder if they will keep him on for that segment.

Dear DG:
Do not draft Mayfield, though my favorite QB candidate.
Sincerely,
old man.
He's on. Hasn't said much.

- Was a tough season. Knew it was turning the wrong way week 3 in Philly, when they got beat by a 60+ yarder by a rookie after starting to roll in the 2nd half.

-Tough to watch Jerry Reese lose his job. Real people with families.

-Eli has a large presence inside the organization.

- Thinks OBJ will come back better than ever and more motivated than ever. He's a special player.

- Thinks Pat Shurmur has the personality and demeanor to "get it done".

Why? Mayfield is probably the best QB in this draft. If he was 2-3 inches taller he'd be the consensus top pick.
So Ross
Breeze_94 : 2/22/2018 2:30 pm : link
a guy familiar with the Giant organizations way of thinking said Baker Mayfield is his guy. Obviously doesn't matter because he is not a part of the decision and was let go by Gettleman, but it is at the very least interesting. Let's keep in mind that the scouting department that worked under Ross is still in place.

Also, I read the other day that the Giants had arranged to meet with Baker at the senior bowl but were unable to connect due to Baker arriving late due to family issues.
He was on ESPN this morning
nyballa0891 : 2/22/2018 2:31 pm : link
And already said that he would take Darnold at 2.

Josina Anderson kept stealing the spotlight to go on opinion based rants, meanwhile there is a guy who actually has insider perspective sitting there

Thanks for posting. Curious if that Eli comment sounded like a veiled shot at him? Kinda like McAdoo couldn’t help himself from doing?
It sounded like it was a veiled comment re: Eli

Of course Eli has a large presence....

Exactly. Frustrating...
Watched it.... AND
est1986 : 2/22/2018 2:41 pm : link
Ross is an idiot... he just showed the entire world he has little to know insight, very little or nothing to see here
Ross had every opportunity to say more
est1986 : 2/22/2018 2:45 pm : link
And he absolutely let Josina steal the show... she actually isn’t bad, just can’t stand her because I feel like she would rather see us continue to burn so she can keep the ‘juicy’ stories coming... and I feel like a lot of our players are giving her info that they shouldn’t give her... I bet she can text Eli apple or Shepard or Snacks or Odell or whatever and get a scoop whenever she wants it...
More detail on his thoughts about Mayfield and other QBs
Vincenzo : 2/22/2018 2:53 pm : link
Ross: “Baker is my favorite guy of these guys. To me, he just has it. I mean, when you look at the franchise winning quarterbacks in the NFL, the things that Baker does. He’s a winner. He’s super productive. He dominated at the highest level, not just in his conference, but against Georgia and Ohio St. with tons of NFL players on the defense. He has a great command, great poise, and great feel. So I would take my shot with Baker.”

Seemed to be most down on Allen, noting how just because he looks like the ideal package, it doesn't cover up his accuracy problems and inability to dominate against lesser competition.

Mentioned Darnold and his poise, but needs to work on the turnovers.

Josh Rosen would be perfect 7-on-7 QB, takes too many sacks.

He had some high praise for Lamar Jackson saying he does read defenses, sits in the pocket, very poised, can deliver on time. He runs pro concepts, and will keep getting better as a passer.
Just watching that entire segment on the QB's
Breeze_94 : 2/22/2018 2:55 pm : link
I feel like Hasselbeck and Ross basically reiterated what I've started to feel about the QB class the last month or so. After Darnold, there really isn't a "franchise QB, blue chip prospect.

Mayfield- best college QB, has the competitive drive, fire, and leadership, can make all the throws necessary, accurate with good feet but there is still questions about his height and the system/conference he played in. I also think he runs himself into sacks and holds the ball too long sometimes but he is my QB2.

Rosen- I actually like the way Ross described him. If your picking a QB for 7v7 drills, he is the guy. He can spin it better than anyone else. But there are too many questions about his toughness, leadership, and mobility as well as injury concerns that could cause him to drop.

Allen- he sucks. Stop falling for the height and arm-strength. He can't complete the ball, can't process defenses quickly, and has horrible footwork. He should at most be a day 2 developmental guy.

Jackson- he can play QB, but there are questions whether his play style will work in the NFL. You will have to change your entire offense to fit him. I think he could come out and have a great first and second year in a gimmick type of offense, but when DC's get film on him, they will figure out a way to shut that down and make him beat them with his arm, and I'm not sure he can do that at this point.
Ross is saying whatever he needs to say...
EricJ : 2/22/2018 3:28 pm : link
to get another job. He has no interest in providing you with any information that you prefer to hear.
Caught him this morning on SC
AcesUp : 2/22/2018 3:46 pm : link
Here is what I caught:

- Was asked about Eli's future and he answered fairly candidly while choosing his words. He feels he's too limited in today's game because of the lack of mobility. Stated "It'll be tough for him"
-When asked who he would take at 2 with the Giants - Sam Darnold. He agreed with the anchor that it would be ideal to allow him to sit. It makes sense that many within the organization share this feeling, so this may be telling.
- Was asked directly about Baker Mayfield as a prospect in general and he spoke glowingly. The usual accolades - playmaker, gamer, winner, etc.
Webb
Archer : 2/22/2018 3:54 pm : link
I wish that Ross had offered his assessment of Webb and compared him to some of the QBs
He's probably really good on tv
Heisenberg : 2/22/2018 4:08 pm : link
.
PS to DG:
old man : 2/22/2018 5:33 pm : link
Don't take Darnold either.
He was also recommended by Ross.
I'm really not very worried about whether the organization
yatqb : 2/22/2018 5:41 pm : link
will echo Ross's beliefs about the QBs. We have a QB guru in Shurmur, and in DG a guy who will make his own assessments in consultation with his coach.

I dunno, even a broken clock...

I too think Mayfield will have a very good career in the NFL.

Welcome to the real world...
Ross's QB evaluations are in today's Daily News
GeofromNJ : 2/23/2018 12:56 pm : link
He likes Mayfield and thinks Jackson has the potential to be a star. He does not like Allen. Thinks Allen has shortcomings that cannot be improved, even with coaching and practice. He thinks Darnold is too jumpy, and Rosen has a propensity for injury and has leadership issues.

Except that, in the reality we live in, he's not 2-3 inches taller. He's also a dickhead which, even if he was 2-3 inches taller, would probably still keep him from being a consensus top pick.

He's probably still getting Paid by the Giants, thus not saying much period.
I think he's auditioning for national TV
AcesUp : 2/23/2018 2:47 pm : link
Obviously there will be Giants focused questions but I think the main reason he was on ESPN and in the papers is because he is trying to position himself for an analyst role. I'm not shocked he didn't get deep into the Giants.
