Is there a bigger story in golf than Tiger trying to get his groove back? Maybe this doesn't say much for golf, but is there any running narrative that can get a casual golf fan interested in this tournament?

based on the fact most of this thread (and your other "el tigre" threads) is you responding and conversing to yourself I'd say if BBI is a barometer it's not that huge of a story.
And believe me I'm not criticizing I've talked to myself on hockey threads on here for years, but I don't pretend they're some massive story though. at least not among BBI Giants fans.

That wasn't my question, sporto. I didn't ask if it was a massive story. I asked if there was a bigger story in golf than Tiger's latest comeback attempt. I submit that there isn't.
There's probably lots of people who truly don't care about this. That's fine. I suspect that they didn't much care for golf back when Tiger ruled the sport, so their "Who cares?" chirping is irrelevant.
he used to be. But, based on crowds following his group, it is a big deal. Tiger is huge for golf. McIlroy is pooping the bed. Spieth is struggling a bit. Mickelson is spotty; several big names are a bit off their games (as is Tiger.)
His drives are still well over 300 yards, but he is sloppy.
Will he ever be the Tiger of 1998 to 2010, no. But he can be a solid pro, say a top 25 player. He is still learning his repaired body and the resulting swing. His short game will need to be impeccable. He needs to clean up off the tees. If he does, when he does he will be near the 1st page of the leader board.

So he is the big story then...
Don’t know who it can be argued otherwise. He’s been the talk of he your so far this year, playing in back to back tournaments, and today, is 4 shots off the lead. He may not win but the story is happening.
Tiger has seven straight pars to open this Round 3. Problem is, the course appears to be playing easier. Other players are moving up the leaderboard with red numbers, while Tiger is starting to fall back.
Very solid performance from Tiger considering he’s still figuring out his game. Tough conditions this week at PGA National too. I’ve played there twice, and got my behind handed to me both times.
A JAG as opposed to who? Before you condemn him, how about waiting until June or July to see if he gets the swing back.
Compared to the good or greats of the game today. He can hang around for a day or two but can't win anymore. Maybe he gets it back by July but he's another year older. At some point it's just not happening for tiger. I'm not condemning him just pointing out the obvious. He's been a jag for how long now? Ten years?

Just an ignorant comment. He’s been injured. It’s not like he left the game on his own or lost the skill. I’m assuming you’ve never had a major injury to get over. Tiger was the best in his sport. Getting back to that level is almost impossible. But calling him a “jag?” Ridiculous. He’s still one of the best in the sport.
A jag for 10 years? He won 5 events in 2013. Just stop it already with the Tiger hate.

Well, since he's been injured with a torn knee and bad back for about 6 years or so, I guess you could say he hasn't been elite.
But he really isn't a JAG. I'd say top 40 or so. He'll never be that dominating again, most likely. The greats, right now, are pretty erratic. McIlroy can't putt. Spieth is meh since he screwed up Augusta two years ago. Justin Thomas has had one hot year. DJ is still the most reliable.
Tiger has been well over 300 yards and only slightly behind the big boys. Peter Kostis says he looks good, but needs to get his gameday or tournament swing back (loose his nervousness.)
He is tied for 7th today, which is not bad.
As I said, give him until june or July. (BTW Jack Nicklaus just said he's surprised Tiger is doing this well.)

second part of the statement is inaccurate.
Tiger's not struggling to make the cut at all.
He's a captivating player who is going to be 4 shots off the lead or so after 36.
I've missed watching him play, and I continue to hope he succeeds.
Par-5 18th is all that's left.

It looks like it's a good scoring day for other players, so Tiger's going to have to go way low over the final 10 to have a shot here.
