For jack shit
A second and a decent prospect for a Grabner rental is jack shit?
Greg from LI : 2/22/2018 11:13 pm : link
What were you expecting?
Where did you read he was a decent prospect?
MetsAreBack : 2/22/2018 11:22 pm : link
He's a 5th round pick in 2016.

A late 2nd rounder and a Hail Mary is disappointing for a guy who has scored 50 goals the last two years. To a division rival that has ended a lot of rangers seasons the last 25 years. So a late 2nd from a more neutral partner would have been more palatable.

NHL club exec on Grabner to Devs:
"Very good value for NYR, 2nd rd pick for 3rd liner & possible 4-5 NHL D in Rykov, who is poor man's Dmitri Orlov (B+ prospect). Catch is he's playing in KHL, they tend to lock up players. If he comes over it's a bonus, that's the trick for NYR

Poor mans orlov ... with KHL recruiting issues
MetsAreBack : 2/22/2018 11:31 pm : link
Hardly inspiring. It's disappointing. That's all.
You're acting like Grabner is Brett Hull or something
Greg from LI : 2/22/2018 11:35 pm : link
How many of his goals are empty net? He's a nice player, but he's not young and he's a UFA to be. You're delusional.
I wasn't expecting more for him, and apparently no one was

offering more.

The big haul(s) should be Nash and perhaps McDonagh. If we don't land a ton for them I'll be disappointed. (I obviously expect more for McD than the expiring Nash.)

What do you guys think is fair for each of them? Should we get more for Nash than the two 2s and prospect we gave up for Staal? And what combination of top prospects and picks should we get for McDonagh?

But

When the Rangers paid 2 first rounder's and Callahan that was okay? Look at some of the trades they made, what they get back, then what we get back now, that tells you everything you need to know, should have got a first at least for Grabner, this is a shit trade.

St Louis, future HoF, was the reigning scoring champion and had another year of term on his contract. Grabner is a nice third liner/pk'er with 20ish games left on his deal. No comparison.
Grabner
PaulN : 2/23/2018 7:08 am : link
Is one of the BEST third line players in the game. He does not play the power play, he is a terrific penalty killer, and his goals are scored with third line minutes, don't tell me about Grabner, he is a terrific pick up and he should have brought back a first, and would have if they waited. The Rangers paid 2 second round picks for Eric Staal when he couldn't score in the ocean. Another great Ranger trade.
St. Louis

Was a great player, he was not a great player for the Rangers, they paid great player price for a declining player, and Tampa knew it, he got off to a hot start that year, but he was already 37, he fizzled down the stretch, the Rangers paid 2 firsts and Callahan!!!!! He was never any better then Callahan for us!!
I said

Back then, just keep Callahan and let him walk, then you save the 5 mil you pay Callahan to replace him with a player, but everybody yelled at me, no, you can't lose him for nothing, stupidity at it's height. Could have just said to Callahan, let's see if we can work it out after the season, that is all, and he would have broke his ass for us. But no, you can't lose him for nothing. We would have saved 5 mil and 2 fucking first round picks!!!!!!!!!!!
