Somebody posted the below linked video on Facebook and it got me thinking more than I expected it to.
Sex and violence is the low hanging fruit that the entertainment industry turns to for the easy money. And when there's millions of dollars at stake, it's understandable to play it safe, give the people what you know they want. It's up to the writers and artists and the powers that be who finance them to dig a littler deeper and make a concerted effort to create quality entertainment that promotes the rewards of loving behavior and non-violent conflict resolution. And this is especially true when the target market is children and adolescents.
Phil in LA used to produce a Saturday morning cartoon called Recess. There were no super heroes and no violence, but it managed to be a popular show anyway because it was well-written and addressed issues and situations that children could relate to. We need a lot more shows like Recess. And Mister Rogers Neighborhood.
p.s.--And don't forget to watch the link below, it's well worth seven minutes of your time....
