RBs whose feet point outward (duck footed)

Milton : 2/23/2018 8:11 am
I deleted the other thread because what I was describing as bowlegged should've been described as duck footed. So here it is with the proper wording...

Quote:
What do Marshawn Lynch, Ahmad Bradshaw, Saquon Barkley, and Ito Smith have in common? Well, at least to my eye, it appears they are all somewhat duck-footed.

It means they'll never be the fastest of backs, but what it takes away from speed, it makes up for in lateral cutting ability and balance upon contact. It's why Bradshaw never seemed to go down when first hit and could play bigger than his size. After noticing it in Bradshaw and Lynch I made a mental note to pay special attention to duck-footed RB prospects in the future and it really stands out when you watch highlights of Barkley and Ito Smith.

The downside is that all that lateral cutting that it allows for also puts a ton of stress on their ankles and feet. Foot injuries are why Bradshaw's career was cut short and why he missed so much practice time. Lynch seemed to weather it okay (still playing into his 30's), but I don't think the duck-footedness was as pronounced in him as it was in Bradshaw. It's very pronounced in both Barkley and Smith.

I'd love to see the Giants steal Smith with one of their 4th round picks, preferably the comp pick.

I have those duck feet

and I feel like its why I am fast and have good balance. I'm not even kidding. There is like an inch space in between my big toe and 2nd toe and I feel like it helps with pushing off big time.
for the OldTimers...

Homer Jones was not only flat-footed, but duck-walked as well.

Wonder about OB, and Stephen Baker and many, many of the other past Giant WRs/RBs that were deemed the fastest on the team?

I didn't say he wasn't fast, what I meant was that duck-footed runners aren't going to be running in the 4.3's, but they can still be plenty explosive.

LOL. How many NFL RBs run 4.3s.

What even is this comparison supposed to mean?

Quote:

So there are only 4 RB's with the same trait in common, even though basically the rest of their attributes are completely different? And it is like Ito Smith is thrown into the mix because you like him. 2 NFL vets and 2 guys in the draft that seem to have no other common traits are reposted in a thread - why exactly?

Hell, we even have a half-baked idea that the position of the feet made Bradshaw injury-prone, while Lynch wasn't, but Smith and Barkley could be.

What's the theory? That list of 4 backs is all over the place in size, speed and style. There is literally no conclusion that can be drawn here.

Why can't people mentally go through a thread idea before actually posting it so that we aren't left with absolute shit?

Seriously. What's next they can't run fast based on their shoe size. LOL
There is a lot of expectation that Barkley will run the 40
allstarjim : 2/23/2018 10:27 am : link
In the 4.3's. I expect he will. If he doesn't, I would be shocked if he ran slower than a 4.43, which is still great speed for a RB.

He should check in at sub 4.45 from just watching him. If he trains for it specifically and uses the breathing techniques and uses track shoes and all that jazz he could probably sneak in under 4.40.
Bradshaw had issues with his feet coming into the NFL

These are the four for whom I've noticed it. If you've noticed it in others, all the better to add to the list to see what's consistent among them and what isn't.
Quote:

I like a lot of RBs in this draft. But I didn't notice duck feet on Chubb or Ronald Jones or John Kelly, etc.
Quote:

If they were four excellent RBs who had nothing else in common but the fact that they run in the low 4.3's, would it be wrong to point out the fact that they had great speed in common?

Quote:

Well, it turns out that duck feet does contribute to injury...
Quote:
Duck feet is a term used to describe out-toeing (flat turned out feet). In their normal alignment, your feet should be parallel with each other and pointing straight ahead. This may not seem important, but as I have said before, the human body is very much like a house of cards. Bend or remove a card and the whole structure becomes unstable.

Why your turned out duck feet are trashing your body

Quote:
What's the theory? That list of 4 backs is all over the place in size, speed and style. There is literally no conclusion that can be drawn here.
The theory is that duck feet can be a positive trait to look for in a RB prospect because it appears to make for greater lateral agility and balance, but it can be a negative trait as well because it puts added stress on the ankles and feet. And it's just a theory, you can feel free to disagree with it and say why you disagree with it, ideally by adding more names to the list of duck-footed RBs so we can see what a larger sample set shows. Of course, you chose to act like a bitter, angry child instead.

Bow legs never helped my speed.
Ivan15 : 2/23/2018 10:35 am : link
Many great RBs have been bow legged, and I have read that many sprinters are pigeon toed.

I would look for RBs who can cut from their inside leg. That’s what the greatest RBs can do.
Pigeon toes

Duck feet, I'm getting hungry reading all this nonsense.
I would think a sign..
FatMan in Charlotte : 2/23/2018 10:40 am : link
of growing up wouldn't be creating a ton of false narratives to keep discussing prospects.

Littering a message board with half-baked ideas and multiple threads about the same players over and over again.

Let me put this more clearly - you named 4 players with nothing similar about them than the appearance of their feet TO YOU.

Not a similar size. Not a similar speed. Not a similar style. Not a similar injury history.

You've tried to find some trait that tied 4 dissimilar backs together and offered a faulty and preposterous theory that isn't even backed up with facts.

And you wonder why you're called on the bullshit?

Isn't it almost time for another rosen thread?

this isn't really a support for your observation of feet:

Quote:
Well, it turns out that duck feet does contribute to injury...

Lynch had 14 documented injuries in the NFL. Only one was related to the foot:
Quote:
Dec 20, 2012 NFL Pedal Foot Sprain Lynch sprained his foot but played through the injury.

Neither Smith nor Barkley have had issues.

Hell, if Bradsaw had healthy feet, you could add another trait that the 4 backs had similar....
Yep..

Without Milton's Duck-footed and Bowl legged threads, where would I get my daily dose of comedy.

I heard RB's that have bunions have an extra advantage....

it's like having a 6th toe that makes it easier to cut back on the plan foot.
Barkley and not fast
Breeze_94 : 2/23/2018 11:14 am : link
are 2 things that should never be grouped together. Have you watched him run? He's consistently the fastest on the field and it really isn't close.

He was clocked at 22.9 mph on a TD run vs Michigan this year, which would've been the 2nd fastest top speed in the NFL in 2016 (only Tyreek Hill was clocked faster).

Where can I mail them Milton

Then post a picture with you in them. That's when some reeal discussion will begin.

That would make keeping your feet in bounds on a close play that much more difficult. Pass.

isn't one of the fastest? And he doesn't run fast, obviously, because he is duck footed?
