Yanks kick off their “home” opener today at 1 PM at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. Game will be televised on Yes, so feel free to use this as the Game Thread if you so choose.
I have been at every spring training home opener since this park (formerly Legend’s Field) opened 23 years ago in 1996. Back then game tickets in lower level were just $10, parking was $5 and beer was (I believe) $3.50. Now game tickets start at $27 (for standing room only) parking is $20 and beer (in a souvenir cup) is $12.
Excited to see this year’s version of the Yanks. At game time it will be sunny and 84 degrees.
Play Ball!
Haha, a view shared by many of us, no doubt.

If you go to a Tampa Yankee A-ball game there's usually only 100-200 people in the stands and you can hear absolutely everything, including the HP umpire talking to the batters.

Nice.
Yup, Boone’s going to be able to give guys days off when called for without taking too much away from the lineup
Glad to see Torres and Andujar in there on day 1
Let’s go Yanks!!
3 batters 21 pitches 2 out
(read nothing into it)
It was a fielding play. The ball was out of reach but he dove for it anyway.
(long winter)

doing it. Slide feet first spikes up and the fielder is in danger. Head first, hands out is asking for injury.

Thanks for telling me adamg. I'm getting my info here, can't watch at work. I was referring to sliding on the bases and thought that's what Rasputin was referring to.
- long road, going to have to grind
- it's a bit weird being manager
- preaching controlling strike zone to hitters
- talent stands out
- they're embracing the grind, "high character club"
- on coaching staff: guys I've come across and had relationships, some from within organization who he interviewed and blew him away, pitching coaches "are covered" and he's going to lean on their expertise
- been consumed with the job, getting to know people in organization and players, been very busy, hasn't had a chance to reflect on things
- on Judge: thought he'd be behind but he's ready to go, got him to buy in to pacing himself some more, expect him to play in 4 or 5 days (next week)
- on Gary: putting in good work, commitment to work and pitching staff, "really excited where he is", going to lean on him a lot, also going to pace him because of his big work load as a catcher
- on Gardner and vets: going to rely on Gardner and CC to continue leading, he looks to them to get a sense of the team's heartbeat, but wants to be the guy who has that sense of the team himself
- on Jacoby as CF: Hicks came of age, there's more in there (Hicks), injuries tripped up Ellsbury, he's in good shape and hungry and excited about the challenge, see how it shakes out for the CF battle
- Andujar and Torres: going to be really good players for a long time, high character guys, being a swagger, the league isn't too big, but also grounded
- Drury: entirely at third base, he's established himself and he's a young guy with upside, hoping to get that upside
David Hale
lost bat into crowd on second swing (good catch by a fan).
Worked the count full but struck out.
1-0 through 5
Dellin Betances is expecting World Series success. Anything else is failure.
This is obvious to anyone who had eyes

Ellsbury is an extra outfielder. Hicks "is your centerfielder".

Agreed.
Wade made a good play in the field the same inning he made the error. Saez's hits were dinky but count just as well. Plus clutch with the guys on base. So I give him player of the game. Heller stood out as far as the pitchers went.
Andujar and Torres didn't flash today but it was just one game. I'm looking forward to see what they can do.
Austin with two nice drives to deep CF-RF
Higgy and Romine looked solid at and behind the dish
Florial was nervous but he sure looks like our future in CF
