I've been majorly negative about this team all offseason.. but if you can't at least get excited for this part of the year, what's the point, right?
LGM!
Exactly. My philosophy is that we have the entire offseason to complain about Sandy and the Wilpons but now that it's a new season, I'm more focused on the day-to-day goings on with the team than the big picture (at least while the team remains in the playoff mix).

Frazier and Vargas gave me a jolt of optimism. Both are solid ML'ers and supposedly pro's on/off the field. Callaway has been a breath of fresh air. One of these years this franchise has to get lucky, right? When is the last time they opened a season 10-15 games over .500 in the first few months? 06?
and will fix it. I don't think this is as huge a deal as it will be made out to be.
but because it's Smith, a new manager, and game 1 of ST it will be over-written about IMO.
It's NOT a big deal but... Smith routinely says the right thing (usually in regard to his weight) so he needs to make good, be on-time etc. Saying the right thing has never been his issue.

Zack Wheeler dialed his fastball up to 97 mph on the stadium gun in a scoreless, 15-pitch first inning. That's a 20-mph spread from a curveball he dropped as low as 77 mph. He also featured a high-80s slider. Two strikeouts in the inning.

Depends how you gun a guy. Out of hand or crossing plate. Ithats one reason guys throw harder nowadays. Ignore stadium guns. How the hitters reacting is way more indicative.
on Dom... on at least once occasion he was pulled aside by a veteran regarding his habits, lateness etc last season which in part is likely why Sandy so openly took shots at him this off-season.
I know this isn't really funny, but I find it funny
Finally got to watch the rest of the Mets game today and one thing I have to say is that ball was absolutely smoked by Luis Guillorme. Hes a legitimate starting second baseman candidate if he shows a little pop.

With the rave reviews his glove gets and solid contact profile he may be a real sleeper. Probably need to go back to Ordonez/Alfonzo to find a better potential double play combo at ss/2b - obvious caveat being if he can hit enough.
have all looked fantastic and none are making the rotation. lol
John Harper had an article today about Wheeler potentially doing for the Mets what Chad Green did for the Yankees last year. That would be great as long as his arm doesn't fall off.
Unless you have an absolute Ace on the mound the game is trending away from having starters go through the order a 3rd time.
Especially the pitchers. Lots of tinkering going on. What you wat to look for is a secondary pitch improving as the spring goes on. Or locating the fastball low. And in.
Same with some of the hitters as well, but a lesser extent. Ex. The one everyone has talked about, Lagares. Unfortunately I dont see that one clicking.

I'm not sure if it's new this season. However, I heard that until march 1st, the road team does not have to send any stars to the games. So in turn when watching a home game, the competition is not as good as would normally be.
Verlander is just toying with them. Alonso looked so silly lol. On his way back in the dugout you could just see the look on his face luck fuck, I aint ready for the majors just yet.
Nimmo on the other hand is so comfortable. That in his mind he KNOWS the ump blew it and it was a ball by inches. Great confidence in his command of the zone
Verlander is just a pure pro. Sucks its only two innings, but this is what makes baseball a beautiful game.
Dan will love to hear Alfonso dropped an easy one for a run. Wont be scored an error since its soring, but very very sloppy
Weird thing is his rep at Florida was "solid" at 1b. I know he's bulked up but still. Awful 1b play = not an MLB player in today's game. Love his swing, would be a bummer if he can't figure it out.

Jose Altuve, AL MVP, on Syndergaards 92-mph changeup that whiffed him. If he throws that changeup to me 100 times, hes going to strike me out 100 times. #mets
if you haven't seen this search for it on twitter, it's all over the place, nasty.
Thor hitting 101 on the gun today asked if he could increase his velocity this spring he replied, good question.

Brian McCann, who managed to fly out on Syndergaards last pitch, a 100-mph fastball: His stuff is as good as it comes in baseball. Hes in that one percent of the league. #mets
Dont watch the highlights somehow watch the first two innings. Thor and Verlander. If you are a diehard fan, this was no ordinary spring training game.
You watched a very special pitch, a vet working on his craft. Topped by a young freak who did things today you could go your entire life and never witness. Thor was that special. Scary.
all dealing with injuries a week into Spring Training. I mean, trying not to overreact but...come the fuck on already.
Hopefully the issues with Cespedes (lower back) and Degrom (shoulder soreness) are just aches and pains of spring training. Not a positive sign, nonetheless. But honestly, with how these guys work out during the off-season, its amazing how they continue to have all of these injuries. Even aches and pains are perplexing.
Never was, hope Im wrong.
Doesnt look serious
But if this team could benefit from guys missing some time, its in the pen. A TON of arms to choose from.
And theyll be using most of them all season anyway. Good time to decide who is ready and who isnt

It's actually a left calf injury for Mets reliever Anthony Swarzak. He'll have an MRI tomorrow, but is not concerned. "I'm walking. I'm standing here right now. I think I'm going to be OK."

Sources: Tim Lincecum is deep into talks with the Texas Rangers on a one-year major league deal, and the expectation is it gets done soon. One possible plan for Lincecum: pitch out of the bullpen. And with the Rangers' closer job wide open, he's got a good shot at securing it.

Tebow refusing to talk to writers.. WEAK.
If it's a one time thing... no big deal but the target is now on Dom Smith's back to go above and beyond the remainder of ST

Alonso's fielding was not MLB playable last season but if he can clean that up he's a viable alternative. Huge power.

Pretty embarrassing to be late on day 1.

Solid inning - just the one base hit. Runner should have been CS at 2nd but he never made it home anyway.

Whatever they are calling Tradition Field now usually runs like 1-2 mph hot, but that is plenty of velo for February.
BUTTTTTTT
Its very early in spring
Against a low A ball lineup
These guys are half a second late on a wheeler and Robles so far though lol
He looked very good but Keith continues to mention how far ahead of the hitters the pitchers are at this point in ST.

He suffered a season ending broken nose last year.

No one really took that rule seriously.
Where can we watch it? Noah is pitching, don't want to miss.

One throwing 96 and dropping it in at 86. With pinpoint.
The other popping 100 and the offspeed is 90-92.
