Jonathan Martin - Really Messed Up

arcarsenal : 2/23/2018 4:01 pm
The story he posted on IG is very disturbing. Tagged the guys who bullied him in Miami.

Apparently he was recently taken into custody by officials.

I can't imagine what would possess someone to post something like this - especially in lieu of what just happened.

Terrible.

Copycat actions of a mentally ill person

Don't know what the answer is but this 24/7 coverage of these school killings seem to give other mentally ill psychos the idea to do the same.
In retrospect

It sure looks much more like Jonathan Martin was much more of the problem than Incognito, Pouncey, and Jerry.

Of course, the hell with John Jerry anyway on general principle.

Yep.

I'm sorry, but this shouldn't be the way an adult responds to bullying. This is reprehensible and he needs to get help.

I'm sure Incognito and the other guys gave him a hard time in that locker room, but no amount of football hazing/bullying should ever result in something like this.

Just an absolutely abhorrent insinuation.

I don't think you can really say that.

Maybe Martin's personality leaned more toward him being a victim-type. But I don't think you can say he was more of the problem than the other grown men.
I'm sorry, I'm not buying that
Greg from LI : 2/23/2018 4:31 pm : link
This is a grown man who is reacting to something in an appalling manner. There is something seriously wrong with this guy and I'm not accepting the premise that it's because of other Dolphins lineman fucking with him years ago.

Seriously, there are hundreds of thousands of people who went through worse hazing in boot camp than anything Martin faced in Miami who aren't threatening people on Twitter.
Greg, I'm not saying he doesn't have some issues.
Beezer : 2/23/2018 4:34 pm : link
Clearly, there's something not right with him.

But how could you or anyone else armchair this to the degree to place less onus on people who may have pushed a guy to where he wouldn't have gone otherwise?

You're assuming everyone is the same, processes things the same way, brings the same coping mechanisms to the table, and on and on.

Why? Theres no evidence that Martin initiated anything or did anything to deserve the treatment he received. Hes suffered from depression and apparently has tried to commit suicide.

he played all throughout high school and three years in college before turning pro. The point is mental illness is just as life threatening as cancer or heart disease whether its chemical or caused by CTE. To call people snowflakes or pussies is just fucking ignorant.

Underestimate mental illness.
With this type of incident
mrvax : 2/24/2018 12:09 am : link
I'd suspect mental illness over a problem stemming from CTE. I hope they quickly find a good medication for him and he continues to take it and have a good life.

He seemed to have all the tools to be a solid tackle back in 2012 but maybe his mind held him back. For an Oline guy, you have to be/change into a nasty warrior when that whistle blows.

In general, it seems those that love to use this worthless "snowflake" mock are usually compensating for something.
.
arcarsenal : 2/24/2018 1:18 am : link
I am entirely sympathetic to mental illness. I know how serious it is and how it affects people - I have people in my family who suffer, and when I was younger, I had my own bouts with some pretty hard bouts of depression.

It's a real issue and something that is still more "taboo" than it should be.

I think it's obvious that Martin is fighting some demons - but this isn't about being bullied. This isn't something you blame on the guys in the Dolphins locker room who gave him a hard time. This goes a bit beyond that.

I don't know his history, if CTE is something that could be impacting him, or where this came from. What I do know is that it's a very scary thing for someone to put out there and it's something that should raise eyebrows.

At the end of the day, I just hope someone can work with him and that he can get some help.

I think this is more than just trying to get attention.
.
arcarsenal : 2/24/2018 1:21 am : link
Also - as reprehensible as I felt this was for him to put out there, it is not at all constructive to call him a "pussy" or a "snowflake."

It's really juvenile and it doesn't help to solve the issue.

Attitudes like that do nothing but fuel the fire and further encourage this type of behavior. It's just not productive in any capacity.

ok Freud tell us what it is. Martin's post draws attention to him, he manipulates the situation and social media to elicit a response and get himself noticed. Now he's in custody and likely has what he wants and could not ask for. Sounds like he needs attention and did what he needed to get it. By attention I don't mean fame you dingus, I mean he is dying for someone to help him and is too afraid to actually ask for it. And yes he is a coward who runs and hides and then throws a tantrum in his own way. It doesn't make him sane, he's clearly not, but he's not going on a shooting spree either. He needs help and can't ask for it. Hence this whoa is me cry for attention. Please tell me what's so wrong in my view of this. I'm dying for a real professional to impart his wisdom and knowledge. Now make with the answers.
Martin is still 'acting out' his failure with the Dolphins
Giants1956 : 2/24/2018 4:43 am : link
He may be very intelligent and very physically talented, but
there is a question to me about his character. He ratted
his team mates to protect his ego. He was given 'real
world shit' and couldn't handle it. Then did a really
shitty thing.
Bullying is one of those roadblocks that must be dealt
with on the road of life. Failure to address or becoming
resentful for seeming unfairness are not winning strategies.

Joey, that is not how your post comes off when you are dismissing his actions as non-psychotic threats. These are psychotic threats. When people post pictures of weapons and tag other people, its not normal (classic) attention seeking behavior. Dont be such a ding dong.
Foundation of all mental illness is the avoidance of true suffer
Giants1956 : 2/24/2018 6:23 am : link
Carl Jung.

What's sad is that no amount of education can help
a person who lacks self awareness.

Because he couldn't do his job and was unwilling either
to change or quit he caused problems of his OL teammates
the Dolphins and turned a stupid football issue into
a race issue and then became the poster boy for anti bullying

I wish him well, but he really has to 'figure out' a lot
about who he is.
Stop blaming CTE for every fucked up thing a football player does
ZogZerg : 2/24/2018 7:44 am : link
This guy was a head case in High School. He is an emotional midget.

Whatever help he has already received obviously has not helped him. They need to lock him up in an institution for a while.

Only a handful of people seem to have a clue about mental illness, including clinical depression. As someone who has seen it up close -- I'm a high school teacher -- I can only pray that some of you have NO contact with people who suffer from it. People suffering from it have no more control over their thoughts and feelings than I can "control" my terrible vision without glasses or lasik surgery.
Dealing in absolutes
UESBLUE : 2/24/2018 8:16 am : link
doesnt help. It is possible for two simultaneously opposing things to be true at once. Hes clearly a very sick individual AND hes also responsible for his actions, especially as an adult. Calling him a snowflake OR blaming others for his actions are equally misinformed.
Charlie, depression & its effects are pretty well known by everyone...

To see the world we live in were its so easy for people to know the faults of everyone else. If we spent more time helping others rather than accusing them maybe just maybe something positive could happen. It only takes a few seconds to find yourself in a terrible situation in life where no one can help you.
