Who are the sure thinggs in this draft?

yatqb : 3/8/2018 11:43 am
To me there are a few can't miss prospects this year:

Nelson, Barkley, Chubb, Smith, Vea, Fitzpatrick, James, Ward.

And, although I wouldn't list any of the QBs as can't miss, I think that Rosen, Darnold and Mayfield have good shots at being top QBs down the line.

If I were Gettleman and I was in love with only one of the QBs, and he was taken #1 by Cleveland, I'd have a tough decision. Take Barkley or Nelson, or try to trade down a few spots and still get one of those two or Chubb, James or Smith.

There really are a lot of guys to fall in love with at the top of this draft...position players who can really help the team.

Thoughts? (I know this has been beaten to death, but the idea of can't miss prospects might well be expanded from the three of Nelson, Barkley and Chubb.)

Barkley, Nelson, and Fitzpatrick are the only 3 guys I'd be willing to call "can't-miss"

I think Rosen would be close if not for the injury concerns.

But for me, it's just those 3 players.
Not sure if he

qualifies because he won't go in the top 10, but I think McGlinchey is a sure thing. He's a 8-10 year RT starter.
That's like asking if anyone has seen a unicorn.

It doesn't exist.
Chubb & Edmunds...
GeorgeAdams33 : 3/8/2018 11:53 am : link
possibly Davenport

I'd be happy with any of those guys, especially if we traded down.

I will be happy with whomever we choose because if we think that highly of a player I will be all on board.

Derwin James is a can't miss imo
Barkley and Nelson

After following the draft for years, I've tried to come up with prospects who I remember being touted as highly as Barkley and Nelson.

I can't remember too many.

Larry Fitzgerald and Reggie Bush come to mind. Even guys like Peyton Manning had their critics, can't beat Florida, etc.

I haven't seen or read one negative thing about Barkley or Nelson since this process has gotten underway. In fact, all I've seen is "gold jacket", "Bo Jackson", etc.

I'm a fan. Not sure if I'd call him can't-miss... but I think he has tremendous ability.

A lot of Ramsey comps.
If history has show us anything

there's no such thing as sure thing lol.

But for the sake of conversation.. I'd guess Nelson. To me he's the safest bet.
There isn't one

There isn't in any draft.
everyone is can't miss
pjcas18 : 3/8/2018 12:12 pm : link
until they miss.

Who were the can't miss prospects from 2013 (picked b/c by now we know).

look at the top of that draft. Fisher, Joeckel, Jordan, Mingo, Cooper.

no one is a sure thing I don't care what anyone says.

I remember reading how Darren McFadden was the next Bo Jackson. Same stuff I'm reading about Barkley now.
Count me in the school of there are no sure things in the draft

Nelson

He will have a very seamless transition to the NFL. Plug and play. Next is Barkley, Next is Fitzpatrick then Chubb.

I think Vander Esch has a very good chance to be a very good day one starter and he might be available in round 2. I love this guys game and he has pro size.

+1
Fitzpatrick...for sure...
bw in dc : 3/8/2018 12:17 pm : link
He can play all six DB positions. And very competently.

I have a good feeling about Kirk too. He should be able to jump into the slot role right off the bat...And be effective...
Just going by history

In a few years we will look back on this list, and probably 3 of these guys will be considered busts.

Barkley, Chubb, Nelson, Fitzpatrick, Darnold and Rosen.
Granted there are no sure things, but if we say close to sure,
Ira : 3/8/2018 12:23 pm : link
I'd take these from yat's list - Nelson, Barkley, Chubb, Smith, Vea, Fitzpatrick, James - and add Guice and Wynn.
The only sure thing is
HoustonGiant : 3/8/2018 12:26 pm : link
that a Punter, nor a kicker, will be the number 1 pick.
I think both Barkley and Nelson will be good NFL players.

How good, and whether they play up to expectations is to be determined. Lots of things can affect it quickly; injuries, team scheme and personnel, and most importantly, the player's own attitude.
There is no sure thing

Usually the guys who get the most hype are the prospects that disappoint
Look at Eli Manning...
BamaBlue : 3/8/2018 12:58 pm : link
expectations were (and are) so high that this guy can't afford to have a bad day without someone climbing down his throat.

For every 'can't miss' guy, there is a legion of people looking to find any flaw and focus on it... The only 'can't miss' guy who gets a modest break is the guy who fly's under the radar to overachieve (Russel Wilson)

I have stopped calling players "sure things."
