NFT: Knicks at Bucks

giantsfan44ab : 3/9/2018 9:38 am
Tank is rolling, Nets won last night. Bulls get the Pistons and Magic face SAC tonight.

Bigger news yesterday was Michael Porter making his debut yesterday. he was 5-17, not great, but just being out there might prevent him from falling too far in the draft. He may just play in 1 more game depending on how far Mizzou goes.

have what is sure to be an epic back-to-back in the last week of the season. At this point, I'd settle for the Knicks moving below one of them. Both would be fantastic...but probably a bit much to ask. Knicks are likely going to win at least 2-3 more games this season.

Anyone else watch that game? I understand they got a really good look on the last play, but that shot needs to go to Porter. I know he was rusty but I really liked what I saw from him.

I’m also starting to really love Mikal Bridges. Fits the Knicks perfectly. Which means he’ll be drafted one spot before the knicks pick...
Orlando
GMEN46 : 3/9/2018 10:16 am : link
Also has 8-9 winnable games. Would be great if we lost to Bulls and Orlando. The lowest we can go is 6 even if we lose every game the rest of the way that’s how bad the 1-5 is right now.
Porter or Bridges would be my choice
GMEN46 : 3/9/2018 10:19 am : link
If porter is there obviously he is the choice. If not Bridges would be a nice fall back, can hit the 3 and play defense and rebound. Does anyone know what the scouting report is on Porter’s defense. I know star players don’t usually put much effort on defense in high school.

Looks like Ayton or Doncic are going #1 and #2. Then Bagley and Bamba. It gets interesting after that.

If they can get to 6, why can't they get to 3? 3 through 6 they are 4 back...

Nets were just in the 3 spot won a game and now they are 7

I'd take 6, that means we get one of Bagley, Young or Porter
Lebron reportedly has 4 teams on his list
giantsfan44ab : 3/9/2018 10:28 am : link
Lakers, Rockets, Cavs, and Sixers

I couldn't imagine Lebron going to the West. I could see the Rockets but they'd have to get really funky with their salaries. CP3 would have to take 50-60% of his max, they'd have to move Ryan Anderson and don't have great assets to do so, along with renouncing Capela and moving one of Tucker or Gordon, or both.

By comparison, it's much easier to envision Philly being able to sign Lebron outright and move Covington and Bayless to sign someone like Avery Bradley. Just let that sink in.
To go to rockets it is real simpke
nygiants16 : 3/9/2018 10:30 am : link
He has to opt in, and then rockets trade for him like rockets did for cp3...

They don't have to renounce anyone

What would the Cavs get in return?

If the Cavs were smart, they would include Tristan and ask for Capela, Gordon, and first round picks for the next 10 years.
Capela's an RFA
giantsfan44ab : 3/9/2018 10:56 am : link
Isn't there some rule against including other players in sign and trades?

Also, are you sure that teams can sign UFA first and then go over the cap to sign their own RFAs? If this were the case why is there such a big issue about other teams signing your own RFAs to offer sheets and tying up cap space? I've always been confused about this, not challenging you on that I'm just wondering how it works.

Every free agent has a cap hold which ties up money,...

So for example say a team has 60 million in guaranteed contracts and a player that has a 15 million dollar cap hold to keep him as restricted. They then have brought 25 million in space...

They can sign a player to 25 million a year and then sign that player who is restricted for say 25 million going over by 10 million..

When a player becomes an unrestricted there are still cap holds to keep their bird rights, the .minute you need that cap space you have to rescind rights...

For LeBron to go to Houston he must opt in and be traded..
It would be the same thing they did for cp3

No I get that, but LAC made out pretty well on that deal. Lou Will was getting all star votes, Beverley didn't really even play. Harrel's been tearing it up for them lately and Dekker has some upside, I think they traded some 1st round picks too right?

My point is what incentive does Cleveland have to trade him and get back bad contracts unless Capela was somehow included (and not sure he could given he is a RFA)?

Houston at that point would be facing GS with nene and pj tucker as starters..

It'd be a lot more straightfoward going to Philly with the added
Lebron
TyreeHelmet : 3/9/2018 11:29 am : link
I wouldn't go off that list. That source is Kevin O'Connor from the Ringer. Decent writer but I highly doubt he is tuned to Lebron's inner circle.

If he wants to go to Houston they can make it work. Capelas cap hold is only 5 mill so they can easily go over the cap to resign him. They would have to move Andersen but a 1st round pick or 2 could make it work. Him and CP3 would have to take discounts but I'm sure they would figure it out.

I can't see him going to Philly. It's just too risky with Emiids health and I'm not sure Simmons is a good fit next to him. He's not just a bad shooter, hes no threat at all and its going to cause him problems.

This is complete 20/20 hindsight and dreaming, but the Knicks could have been a viable option this offseason for him. If they kept their cap clean - no Lee, Noah, Thomas or Hardaway JR signings and drafted Mitchell. With this dream you are assuming KP doesn't get hurt and they have a competent coach. But a core of Mitchell/KP with the cap space for Lebron and PG13 would be very attractive to them. Definitely better than the Lakers...

Frustrating, but it does show you how easily and quickly things can change. Hopefully, the next two lottery picks and the next coaching hire will put us in better position going into the summer of 2019.

Also, not sure if anyone noticed, but Hornacek name dropped Donovan Mitchell again yesterday when discussing the whole idea of tanking, and how you can get good players like him later in the draft. You can tell that's the guy he wanted, and he wants everyone to know it.
I agree
giantsfan44ab : 3/9/2018 11:40 am : link
Lebron isn't an ideal fit with Simmons, but is Tristan Thompson and Larry Nance bad fits with Lebron too? Embiid isn't the shooter Love is from 3 but he does cause guys to close out to him and he's a better mid range shooter than Love too. For sure have to stagger Simmons and Lebron, but I think talent wins out more often than not.
Not to turn this to a shit on Frank thread
giantsfan44ab : 3/9/2018 11:45 am : link
still like things he brings, but how many guys drafted after him would you take? Obviously this is preliminary and too early to draw conclusions, but just thought itd be interesting.

Obviously Mitchell
I'd add Bam, John Collins, OG, Kuzma, Bell. Josh Hart's interesting too, might have lower upside but very, very solid so far.
I think LBJ does move on from Cleveland this summer
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 3/9/2018 11:47 am : link
& probably ends up in Philly.

No need to read into it, he said a factual statements. Sports leagues tend to do well when their 2 most valuable franchises are good

When Knicks sign troy for the rest of year

Kid can ball
Mudiay very good 3rd after awful first half
nygiants16 : 3/9/2018 9:58 pm : link
9 points 4 assists 1 board
I haven't given up hope on the Mudiay-Frank backcourt.
Del Shofner : 3/9/2018 10:40 pm : link
They are still so young, esp. Frank. If the shooting lightbulb could go on for both of them, I think they'd be dangerous.
Two points in 33 minutes for Frank.

I love ya kid, but come on.
Mudiay played a great 2nd half
nygiants16 : 3/9/2018 11:15 pm : link
19 points 4 assists no turnovers...

Seemed like the ball was in his hands a lot more in the 2nd half and he was agressive
Mikal Bridges just hit two clutch threes

Would look good in the white and orange.
