If I'm reading the tea leaves correctly. I'd personally like to trade back, get some extra picks, and snag Nelson. He's going to be a beast. He's better than Martin.
Well for one reason the giants might not think any of them are worth a first round pick. 2nd, maybe what they have on the bench is as good as any of these QB's. Third, maybe they feel Eli has a few years left and with the right improvements could be a viable QB. Or maybe they feel Saquon Barkley is a game changer or Quenton Nelson is the best O-Lineman to come out of college in 10 years. Philadelphia won a superbowl, with a backup QB, because all the pieces came together. This team needs a lot of pieces before a QB will make much of a difference.
Barkley if you believe he is a Peterson like generational player...as advertised. He seems to have no flaws.
Generational player? AP won how many playoffs games and how many dominant years did he have. Was his dominance the key to the Vikings being dominant in a throw happy league...
The Giants will not only destroy their franchise for the next decade if they do not take a qb. We now suppose to belive that a new regime is going to hitch their wagons to a qb who could not get a single first team snap on a garbage team and was not the qb they drafted?
New regimes should take a qb with the top of the draft pick and hitch their wagon to that player like TC did with Eli.
Barkley will only be exciting for Madden players who use the Giants
Tiki...what the hell did the Giants win...He retired and the Giants went to the SB with 2 complimentary back but we must waste a high pick on a rb who we can find in rd 3 or 4 to provide about 85% of what Barkely is

QB
LT
DE
WR

Part of the Giants problem the last few years is picking up short yardage plays and Eli being able to step up in the pocket. You need good interior linemen as well as good tackles. Oh by the way, there is only one solid LT in free agency in Solder, he will cost more than Norwell who is an All Pro 26 year old. You give big contracts to young players in their prime. If Solder would take a Whitworth type contract then maybe.
Also, Nelson is a stud and will be all pro. If he were at RG with Norwell at LG our O Line would be much better at pass and run blocking.
The eagles also were put in that position by a qb who was well on his way to an MVP season. If you think the eagles would of had the same season with Foles as their qb all year then we agree to disagree
Again, if you want to come away with a guard at pick 2, we agree to disagree. You can find good guards anywhere.
If you haven't seen a decline in Eli over the past two years, again, we agree to disagree
Take a look around the NFC. It's loaded. If you want to go all in, have Eli as your starting QB, and draft a RB or a guard at 2, well again, let's agree to disagree. They need to rebuild, and that starts with drafting a QB

What if the Giants have to settle for their second choice at QB... Â

Bravo! Well said. Next to taking a G or punter, taking a RB with the #2 pick is beyond dumb...
because Barry Sanders never won a title, OJ Simpson didn't, Adrian Peterson and LDT didn't, etc., and you need a franchise QB to win a title.
Emmitt Smith won three Super Bowls. Franco Harris won four. Jim Taylor won the first two. Mike Garrett played in two and won one.
Terrell Davis won a couple. Larry Csonka, Marcus Allen, Walter Payton, Marshall Faulk all got one.
And let's not even get into guys like Thurman Thomas and Chuck Foreman who got there more than once without winning.
It's a team sport. A great QB helps, a great RB helps, but neither one wins alone. It's up to the coaches and management to understand that a great QB or RB may be masking weaknesses that will be exposed in the playoffs.

Here is your answer - it's abundantly easier to find quality RBs than it is to find quality QBs.
I feel like is the pick 100%. Hes the guy Shurmur has been talking about when raving at the combine someone learning and regurgitating the playbook in one meeting, they are trying to fix the leaks so you hear nothing about him at all. They are driving the narrative of Eli all the way 100%, lets re-tool around him, then they will draft Rosen and throw him into the fire and no one will see it coming.
I stress, if Giants are dumb enough to NOT take a qb I hope they trade down. I just don't see how this team competes next year in the NFC. With that said, I might be on an island by myself but I'd absolutely think about trading back with a team like the bills.
Give me picks 21,22, bills 2'nd round pick, 4th round pick
Plus 2019 1st round pick and I'm asking for Dion Dawkins.
They refuse, I'm taking a QB. I'd much rather have the picks in that hypothetical over selecting a RB at 2, or a guard.

You are bringing up RB from an era where it was not a pass happy league. EMitt Smith had a HOF oline and tons of HOF skill position players. The Cowboys could have had another rb that would have been nice and still won. And Emitt Smith was not picked second overall.
Name me the last SB winner in the last Decade to be on the heels of a GENERATIONAL RB

Are the Chargers drafting 18 and Steelers drafting 23rd in position to draft at #2?
Has Ben and Phillip Rivers not played better than Eli for the last 5 seasons?
If the Steelers had the second overall or Chargers you can bet your bottom dollar they will be in serious discussions on taking a QB
Helps see the answer is probably the generic “best player available”
As long as it’s not that DB giantswire has in their new mock draft. Ugh. Taking a DB who isn’t Deion Sanders at 2 just makes me cringe. Other than kicker, punter and middle linebacker I can’t see a more wasted pick.

its a little specious, since you should, then, be hearing about them being in the FA market or packaging trades to trade up.

Are you blaming Eli for this disastrous season? Last I heard, 11 football players play the game. I bet if Eli had a decent Oline in front of him for the past 7 or 8 years, we would not be having this discussion.
and take nelson there

I'd want way more that a 3rd pick to drop to 4.

I don't think so at all. He's a huge ball of potential with relatively little production. Huge gamble for Gettelman.
