WR in Draft?

lugnut : 3/11/2018 9:33 am
Just curious who thinks WR might be a surprisingly high pick for us in Draft, say 2nd or 3rd Rd? Everybody is looking at QB or Barkley in 1st, OL in 1st or 2nd, and maybe hoping LB or more OL in 2nd or 3rd. But look at the WR cupboard and it is bare. We have one stud -- and he is coming off injury and will soon want $$$$ -- and the solid Shepard -- a slot guy who might have already reached his ceiling. After that, it's a bunch of nobodies. I know next to nothing about this year's crop. More interested in just, Do you think we could/should go WR much higher than is being talked about?
Good post. I’m thinking same thing

Cedric Wilson Boise St
Bigger need

Than OL? RB? LB or FS? Reese left the OL w maybe one starter. At lest the WRs have OBJ, Shappard and pretty much Engram. If you don’t think Engram is pretty much a WR then you aren’t watching

This never ending obsession w WRs was part of Reeses’s shitty roster building. Every other NFL team finds complementary WRs after rd 3. Time for the Giants to do that.
Hamilton is an ideal X receiver

I also like Mephis' Anthony Miller. I do think DG will try to add a free agent WR and I hope he goes after Donte Moncrief. Good size, good route runner. I actually think this is the way to go, but I like Chark from LSU if we can get him with our 3rd round pick.
Marshall is still on the roster

and I believe, assuming he agrees to a pay cut, he will be back. Engram can also play on the outside too.
Kinda in order of preference...

The 'wus ball' team.

So. In a trade down scenario with lots of extra picks? OK.

Or fifth round or later.

However, considering that 260lb TEs can also help in the run game I could see one of those being drafted early.

Wala, you just gained a sometimes first round quality WR. E.E.

And killed two birds with one stone. Improved your run game and added a blue chipper WR (who is already on the roster).

Never mind that he will still wear a TE # and go in line at times. So what?
Maybe one very late pick for a WR

not saying we don't need depth here but seems to me many of our "discretionary picks" need to add O-lineman and LBs...
The good old cascading effect

Year after year. If you drink the koolaide in Rd 1. , it greatly reduces the chances of hitting on those targeted individual positional players for the entire rest of the draft.

Year after year the same refrain:

"Wow, those guards just went ten picks before we expected. Oh well"

As one example. LBs....

Steve Smith, Sr and Mike Mayock of NFLN, during the Combine, called DaeSean Hamilton the best route runner in the draft...just FYI.
Too many more pressing needs, too few picks left.

No WR.
Hamilton is also good at catching balls when tightly covered.

He seems to win most battles with corners.
Hamilton has a great work ethic

It has paid off for him. If I recall early in the process he was a day three prospect, maybe round 5. He impressed at the Shrine game and earned a late invite to the senior bowl Doing well there also. I've now seen mocks putting him anywhere from 2-5 round.
My Picks

Kirk in the second if he is there explosive on the field.
Gallup in the 4th but might be gone.
Miller foot injury age or Callaway conduct very special talent in the fifth.
