Only full Seahawks game I watched all year, including Giants Hawks because I skipped most of that because I was in beautiful Victoria, BC with family and we sucked. Anyways, their OL was atrocious..
Russell Wilson honestly should have been MVP based on the season he had behind that line.
It was so, SO bad. And he still had an outstanding season.
A great case can be made for that. In fact, I did numerous times. Now, he's also a lucky son of a bitch, too, with some of the throws he gets away with - all those jump balls and throwing across field on the scramble. But in the aggregate, I can't think of another QB in history - maybe Steve Young? McNair? - who could have been as productive under the circumstances.
And keep in mind, his WRs are barely C+ in total and the running game is as laughable as ours...
Talent is down across the board in the NFL right now, it may be age or this stupid winter or my lack of intellectual capacity but I don't see the talent and execution of even a few years ago. I think the CBA is really killing the game. I mean think about the Eagles on the wings of Nick Foles knocking off the Pats in a shootout in the super bowl. There have been journeyman winners sure but all had something dominant, like a defense or offensive talent around them or a HoF coach like Gibbs and Parcells. An also ran QB knocked off the best QB and coach of all time with what...an RPO..the fancy new name for the triple option or the spread or every high school offense since the 1950s? The deadly Nick Foles? The unstoppable ...Eagles???
This league is really really going downhill in a hurry from a talent and execution standpoint. Look at FA, look at the All Pro squads, this may be an all time low talent wise NFL wide. And I will bang the drum for Saquon Barkley every day but he's the consensus best player in the draft and a few years ago he'd be a middle to late first rounder because the talent at OT or QB or DL would be off the charts. I really don't see it in this draft and haven't for a few years. The best OL is a guard, the best QB is debatable and whoever he is has glaring warts. There is no dominant WR, no can't miss TE, no game changing pass rusher or DB, it's a pretty shitty draft for a pretty average league.

Yep - although one of those WR's is a FA now - Paul Richardson. And I think he'd be a fantastic addition. We probably won't even sniff around him, but I think that's a guy who is on the verge of a few really good years.
He's a playmaking machine. Still young. One of my favorite FA WR's this year.
I'd love to replace Marshall w him if we cut ties.
Slashing practice time has hurt the quality of play Â
I think a lot of college players, particularly offensive linemen, are coming in to the league too green as well.
Many are playing in spread offenses and systems where they don't learn as much pro technique as they need so they're incomplete prospects.
Some of these QB's literally never take a snap under center now.
I think this is why you're seeing the RPO turn into all the rage and why teams are trying to utilize more collegiate concepts because they're not having much luck doing it the other way and trying to adapt these guys to pro-style offenses.
I always say this - but coaching is so fucking important in this sport. And perhaps the quality of coaching across the league isn't quite as good as it may have been in the past, either.
About #2 Atlanta and what outside zone running can do to get your opponent's front seven going the wrong way and how that can help your lines outcomes.
That and the quickness with which some of those plays develop on O, and how that helps your line as well.
Parcells once said the pros can only take what the college game gives them. I know it sounds like a "duh" comment, but he meant, obviously, level of play...
So with the college going spread and finesse that produces too many players one way football...so linemen spend most of the their time going backwards...
Now the pros have to draft and deal with under developed players, under a CBA that limits practice...
The spread offense really effects the quality of quarterbacks and offensive lineman of late. But Bret jones is an example of learning the pro system and finally playing ok.
This is why i’m Ok w the giants missing out on Norwell. No matter what, their line can only get better.

I meant to get back to this because it made me laugh. How f-ckin true abut the RPO. A gimmicky high school offense - mainly because teams couldn’t pass - resurrected by that jerk off Rich Rodriguez because he couldn’t teach a pro style offense! You just can’t make it up. And now it’s the rage...like it’s an innovation like the WCO. Essentially the NFL has gone backwards - from playing chess (WCO) to playing checkers (RPO)...
Flowers was not better than Jerry. Not even close.
And i watched Miami, Indy, Seattle and Texans play several times and all I can say is if they are worse, its gotta be close...
They actually did.
Watch the games from this past year and the difference between #26 and #32 wasn't all that great.
Jints were poor - obviously - but it was escalated by the deluge of injuries to the skill position players and McAdoo's inexplicable play calling...
Agreed. PFF's detailed player/snap analysis is very subjective. Was the Eagles really the best?
Here's what Russell Wilson had to deal with in 2017

Deaf ears I guess.

A perfect storm for mediocre play...

What a clown show.
