All that free agent done deals media reports of recent

giantsFC : 3/12/2018 10:45 pm
Turning into the classic overused fake news cliche. Starting to think smart teams are putting out all kinds of fiction leaks. Or agents are just trying to generate some bidding.

And also realizing every player, no matter position, thinks they are gong to get a new trend setting 20mil a year contract. Time to reign these egos in to a world of the salary cap.

Hoping the giants stay reasonable. Don’t need another cap destroying era.
The Giants

have never had a cap-destroying era. They’ve always been one of the more conservative teams in the league when it comes to managing the cap, which is an accounting device that is subject to extensive manipulation .
One way or another they have to sign a lot of guys since they have so many of their own free agents . This is as it should be when you finish 3-13. I don’t think they will replicate 2001, when Accorsi put together a roster that had something like 20 college non-drafted free agents . To avoid that gruesome scenauo , which would guarantee another double-digit
loss season, Gettleman is going to have to spend lots of money. And that is before you consider Beckham’s deal, which will hover around 20 million a year .
Let’s see how things shake out

Long offseason.
What is it with the "Fake News" B.S.

This kind of thing has been going on for years...how do you think the National Enquirer has been allowed to exist.

Fake News my ass...what an absolutely stupid, idiotic phrase!
The Giants have..

well positioned contract so they have them expiring without too much pain after a couple of years. Both Vernon and JPP have deals that will allow the team to move from them next year if they so choose without complications. Same with Eli.

I don't know why, but the past month there have been a lot of comments about the tight grip the salary cap has and how the Giants aren't going to be able to make moves. Now, we even have an insinuation that the giants had a time where they were struggling against the cap.
"Done Deals" 1-2 days prior are dumb
AcesUp : 3/13/2018 9:41 am : link
Because the situations are so fluid. It's possible and even likely that the Giants were the clear front runners until the Jags entered the picture.
Have you not been paying attention prior to this offseason?
Giantology : 3/13/2018 9:42 am : link
This is not the first offseason that teams and agents have released false/misleading info.

Additionally, the salary cap goes up every year. The top free agent talent is always looking to up their max salary. This is not a new trend and something you should've realized years ago. Rinse and repeat.
Spoiler Alert: The salary cap grows immensely every year

and thus contracts are going to go up every year.

Immensely? - we'll see what happens if TV revenues keep declining. If the trend reverses, of course the CAP will go up.

Networks will always pay to keep the highest rating programs on TV in an age where people are streaming and cutting the coord.

The NFL is still primo programming.

Just wait until the streaming rights (Sunday ticket like) no tied to direct TV become available. Just wait.
IDK bout that. But I'll take your word

I'm not sure where you all are coming from about how the Giants haven't ever had cap concerns. I will consider this assumption as truth though I remember years where they were in a pinch and couldn't sign any pieces for a few years. Also had to let go of some great players still in their prime bc they couldn't compete with the salaries being offered or had to cut for cap concerns....Pretty much any good home grown DT over the past 15 years departed. Remember the Phil Simms debacle? Pepper Johnson, Carl Banks, Luke Petigout. those years in between the superbowl splurges were pretty dismal for a bit. And of course now. 20 mil to quick fix a 3 win team with numerous holes adds up pretty darn quick if you ask me...cap friendly deals or not.

Yeah every team does it, but those teams are also having cap concerns and often struggle a few years to sign top FA's.

I guess I view these things from a realist perspective. I don't really think you can build a team from free agency, but I'm more concerned about having the money to keep the talent you have...especially if its winning talent

Is a great weapon. This is the best phrase one can use to put a full stop on an obnoxious conversation brewing among peers and/or spouses. Just go nuclear in an argument and yell out fake news. Its a guarantee everyone groans and thus conversation ends.
