question we must, MUST, draft Nelson. I don't think we have any other choice. The years of bad drafting have caught up with us. I don't blame Norwell from going to a team that went to the AFC championship game, has an excellent running back and a team that would seem to be on the path to a SB.
I am sure there are other influences although that shouldn't matter with New York but this is all on the previous regime. The only one we will have left is Flowers and what a sad commentary on the drafts (re: OL) from 2013-2017 that is.
Desperation is lame.
Nelson will likely become a great player. But the #2 pick is a guy you hope will transform your franchise and you don't build your team around a guard.
The 2nd round pick is practically another 1st round. Want to go linemen then, absolutely. But the #2 pick overall can't be a plug a hole selection.
And that should seal it - dumbest franchise ever...
I'm not agreeing with Jerry's premise that the Norwell signing changes the Giants draft board in anyway, but I do think that it is a legitimate question.
We didn't overpay for the top guard in freeze agency
Works both ways. How inept will we look if we draft a QB that turns out to be a bust or at best a back up in the league. Could set us back more years.
Desperation is lame.
Only Barkley is slightly better. Every single draft "expert" and at least 11 teams reportedly have Nelson as the best player in the draft.

Lmao with the 1st pick the NYG select a franchise Guard.. then we can go FB and Punter

What if Barkley, Chubb, or QB is the far superior prospect on their board?

We'll find out, I heard he's running third at best as of last week.

Chubb? Tell me why a position that is not a need would be taken over position that has been downright awful for years now??

Because the draft isn't solely about picking for need.
Is only way i see it happening 😊
Nonetheless, Nelson is, I believe, the no. 2 rated prospect overall on almost any draft board I have seen. I might make an exception if Barkley was there but otherwise no.
Try and follow the words you like to express to others, Jon.
with chubb, fitzpatrick and barkley all off the board then you have to seriously look at nelson (og) or perhaps edwards (LB) in the first round maybe even brown the OT who may be a bit of a reach at 2 as he projects to a RT therefore slightly devalued enough that taking at 2 would be too high even with the need on the OL
what happened a few days ago it was a virtually done deal that norwell was going to new york?

I was polite.
than taking an OG you dont pass on a top OL to take a bust QB
chubb is a position of need the giants need more pass rush and chubb would give them that he is definitely in the mix if they stay at 2 as is barkley and fitzpatrick without seeing the giants draft board its impossible to tell how they have them stacked at this point
Because nothing else matters except 2018. Nothing.

Because franchise QBs, a bounty of cost controlled 1st + 2nd round draft picks and once in a lifetime 21 yr RB prospects aren't available in FA. You have more options at #2 than you do in free agency.

Why is it stupid to draft a great G at #2 if by all accounts he is indeed one of the top 2 platers in the draft, but intelligent to spend $60 mil on one in FA?

And those positions are ultimately more valuable to a football team, it's a game of impact talent.
It's that awful place NFL teams find themselves in when they forfeit just about any chance they have at a Super Bowl Championship, because they don't have an All-Pro guard on their roster.
If there's a franchise QB available at 2, DG's got to take him. If DG doesn't like who's there at 2, he's got to trade down to a team in love with a QB, or take Barkley.

Nice :)

In what world is a blue chip DE not a need with the age, contracts, injury history, and inconsistency of our current defensive ends?
Norwell was viewed as a later round pick, but then he had a poor combine. Result, UDFA.
I wouldn't want to select a QB just to select a QB. And if you believe in Dave Te's analysis, Nelson might be a better choice.
