Any News on Justin Pugh?

robbieballs2003 : 3/13/2018 11:29 pm
Is it weird that it is quiet with respect to him? Or is he a guy that needs to wait for some of the other OL to choose their destination before the dominoes fall? I just figured there would be more info regarding some of these OL with basically two and a half days of the legal tampering period.
or the cold honest truth
Giantsfan79 : 3/13/2018 11:31 pm : link
Justin Pugh isn't currently on any NFL teams radar as a priority upgrade.

Plus coming off injuries I'd imagine teams want to see his medicals and I don't know if the rules permit NFL teams to see medicals until free agency actually starts.
Giants Will End Up Signing Him
TheVette : 3/13/2018 11:32 pm : link
...and he will promptly miss 8 games next season, including both against the Eagles because - well, he's an Eagles fan, and that's where is loyalty is. Eli Apple is another Eagles fan - sad that the Giants pay guys who openly root for one of their biggest rivals.

I don't know about tanking against the Eagles angle, but I fear you are right they'll resign him [and overpay] and he'll continue to get hurt.
We are not exactly
old man : 3/14/2018 12:13 am : link
a mecca for FAs currently, and he/his injuries don't bode well for need of a reliable player.
I can see him coming back if no one bites in the first 48 hours of FA and DG jumps in on Saturday or Sunday.
Of course we don't know about what's going on behind the scenes with every FA, just the ones that the agents want to leak news on.
The contract can always be structured to discount for games missed and still give him an appropriate amount for likely # games played...in other words a rental/ show us while his replacement is a draft pick.
I'm sure he will be over paid by some team

..
He is a decent OL
Rjanyg : 3/14/2018 7:30 am : link
The issue is the money/injury dilemma. A team has to know how healthy he is and to be honest, he maybe a better RT than LG. I'd be willing to bet part of the issue is teams don't know where his best position is.

Um no
Honestly, as long as a guy doesn't root for the Eagles (or whoever)
Bill L : 3/14/2018 8:15 am : link
when his team is playing the Eagles. And as long as he comes to work and does his job to the best of his ability, I doesn't matter a whit to me what his rooting interest is.

Players are drawn from all kinds of places and most, hopefully, as really into football and have always been really into football. Which likely means that they grow up as avid fans of their local team. IMO, it's unreasonable to expect them to shelve all that when the end up playing for some other random team as their job. I expect them to overcome it when necessary because that's part of being a professional, but otherwise....Heck, we all live in different places and likely some of us are in the town of a different team. Yet, we're still Giants fans. Not rooting for a team is not part of the job requirement.
Unless it's something inherent chronic, I think "injury prone"
Bill L : 3/14/2018 8:24 am : link
is overrated or even mythical. Without a defined, underlying tendency, an injury is random and multiple injuries are no less so. From that viewpoint, and from a talent perspective, I think a Solder, Pugh, Jones, XXX, Flowers line is intriguing. The one thing that does bother me is the "Barstool" quote from yesterday. It sounds as if he may just not be into it.
Silence

Here's hoping we lock up Solder so there's no temptation with Pugh.

Great analysis here. I guess they should not have picked Lawrence Taylor because he was a life long Cowboys fan AND grew up int the DC area.
For what it's worth.......
Simms11 : 3/14/2018 8:49 am : link
NFL Network has him as the 5th best FA available overall!

I'd say he is decent enough to re-sign, but he needs to remain healthy and needs to get bigger IMO, to be a hog mollie!
Injuries/Money
AcesUp : 3/14/2018 9:50 am : link
I think he ends up on a show me deal. Either 1 yr high annual or 2 year deal that forces the team to cut/restructure before 2nd year.
Pugh is a damn good player when healthy
PatersonPlank : 3/14/2018 9:54 am : link
He's our best OL player. Plus he can play both G and T. I really don't get the hate around here for the guy.
If the Giants could somehow walk away from FA
Breeze_94 : 3/14/2018 10:03 am : link
With Solder/Pugh on the left side, I'd be happy.

Even Solder/Mewhort, or Solder/Su'a Filo would be decent

Can't stay healthy, isn't a physical player and has a big mouth. Solid pulling guard with the versatility to play different spots, but his barstool sports persona is what the mob is going to focus on. I don't understand why people don't understand.
saw a rumor
bc4life : 3/14/2018 10:08 am : link
that Bucs may have interest.

He might not be in their palns regardless. Richburg, Pugh, fit that finsse athletic mold. Think they might be looking to get more physical. And, that's without even factoring in the injuries.

When is that? And no, he isn't. And even if he is, SO? That's like being the tallest man in Munchkin Land.

Flowers was better than him for most of the season. I don't know what happened at the end.

He's our best OL player.

Those two sentences contradict each other.

NO ONE on the Giants OL over the last few years has been a "damn good player." Pugh is merely a competent starter who's better than the crap he's been surrounded with on the Giants OL. He's never been within miles of pro-bowl consideration. His value is his versatility, but personally, I think he's been misused and playing out of position for most of his career.

That said, teams aren't beating down his door because he can't stay healthy.

Now that Solder is on board, if no other team bites on Pugh, I wouldn't mind seeing the Giants bring him back on an incentive-based contract that pays him more the more games he plays.

Probably unrealistic.

I'd wager
MotownGIANTS : 3/14/2018 4:16 pm : link
he is getting decent offer but there is wording around playing time ie injuries and he is not willing to bet on himself yet. I could see him being a late signing after summer injuries occur....ironically.
He's

What a dumb post. Cruz grew up a Cowboys fan.
Anytime Richburg got signed ...
FStubbs : 3/14/2018 5:08 pm : link
... Pugh has offers. Probably just nothing he wants.
