The #Giants are expected to sign former #AZCardinals OLB Kareem Martin, source said, and his familiarity with new DC James Bettcher should help.

Was he a starter for the Cardinals?
nyjuggernaut2 : 3/14/2018 11:27 am : link
His stats say he played in all 16 games, but only had 24 total tackles (18 solo). Doesn't seem to be much for a starting LB. Kennard had 41 total tackles and missed a couple games with injuries.
keep in mind they have

He can play 4-3 DE or 3-4 OLB

Wanted him bad in the 2011 draft. Finally get him.

Eric, This is referring to Solder.

He'll be overpaid, too old, too slow and too many other things I can't muster up to bitch about right now. Must just contain foaming at mouth......

How the fuck is he to old. For someone who spouts a lot of criticism to other posters you are way off on this one

Sarcasm bro
Yup, right after they officially sign a Norwell.

just turned 26 years old, had his best season last year.

I'm guessing its should be in the 4mil APY range

$4 per year for a backup? We'll see. His *best season* was 24 tackles and 1 sack. If his old D coordinator wants him here, he must have some value.

at this point in time nobody on this team is a backup or starter they are all competing, except Solder....

a big body DT after early cuts or even in late rounds of the draft or UDFA. I think that can be one of the cheaper options to fill for a backup.

Philly signed Haloti Ngata and with their cap situation that may not allow them to sign Beau Allen

Philly targeting Suh
Interesting comments from Boylhart back in 2014...

I dont think Kareem is a boom or bust player -- I think he will be an impact player or just a solid player. His effort and football intelligence are not a question. His reaction time to what he sees and his ability to use his full athletic talent is. Add to that his lack of techniques when rushing the passer or stuffing the run and you have a player with enormous athletic talent that is not playing up to that athletic talent, but not from a lack of work ethic or intelligence. Kareem is the type of player who could sneak into the first round, but for me I think his LTI (length to impact) is long enough to suggest that he might not peak until his first contract is up.

I think this has a chance

to be one of those signings that we look back on as a great value. This guy has just started to scratch the surface. He is an athletic freak .

He had a really good game vs the Giants this year.

I'm hoping he continues to ascend, and becomes a 6-7 sack guy who plays the run very well. He already does a great job setting the edge.
3 years $21 million
jeff57 : 3/14/2018 9:05 pm : link
7.5 guaranteed.
3 years/21m (7.5m gtd) - figured it would be higher than expected
Eric on Li : 3/14/2018 9:09 pm : link
but that seems like starter money. My expectation was that he'd be similar to Kennard, at that price I'd hope he's better than that. This would also make it appear the LB's are somewhat set.

OLB - Vernon, Martin, Moss (maybe some JPP/Okwara)
ILB - Ogletree, Goodson

I assume they'll add a couple other rookies along the way too.
Someone had the same concerns in another thread

7.5 guaranteed would rank 28th among Outside Linebackers.

Not must to see here.

I concur. Nice post. I agree with that just by looking at his body, draft profile and NFL stats.

Seems big for LB but obviously Belcher knows him and knows he can play OLB and I'm assuming he's going to play some DE in 4-5 man fronts
Also he played a lot of basketball
DennyInDenville : 3/14/2018 10:25 pm : link
If he can sit in the right spots in coverage his INT numbers can improve as he has the hands to catch those dumb passes over the middle QBs make so often when they get pressured

Suh next to Fletcher Cox would be dominant.

That's a fair point, I guess the question is whether they think he's just a solid middle of the pack LB or if he's got some untapped potential. Is he Bettcher's version of Kennard, or is he like one of those guys who rides the bench in Pittsburgh for 3 or 4 years and then breaks out with more playing time when the guy ahead of him leaves?

I was watching those highlights yesterday, every defensive player had a great game - completely dominated Giants' offense.
